I loved my Duc. Perfect fit at 5'9", 160. Bigger riders look like carnival bears riding mini-bikes on these things. Sold my Duc and bought a Triumph Tiger. Think GS w/ a lighter feel. The triple is a great motor- sound, power-very nice. Makes me want a speed triple.

The '01 thru '06 Tigers are best IMHO. Kinda scarce but worth a look at about 2/3rds of GS prices. Comfort = speed. A good rider on a GS/Tiger will give the sport bike guys a good run for their $$ in the twisties- off road capabilities to boot.

Ya know, the OP has been awfully quiet. Last time he showed up with a sparkling new V-rod. What say ye Doc. . . .Duc?

Love, love, love my V-Rod. Smooth power, great balance, dual 4 piston Brembos on the front that are as big as my original 911 SC brakes. Best shifting transmission of any bike I've ever been on. And I still love looking at that beautiful machine. But...

Although it's a great bike for cruising and carving turns, it's not a sport bike. I rode my friends Triumph Speed Triple and it got my wheels turning...

I need TWO bikes!

So... I'm looking at BMW R1200 R's and maybe another Ducati. Hyper Motard or Multistrada?

Hyper is a funky riding position and you get 80 miles out of a full tank. PITA. Multi is a brilliant bike. I'm not crazy about the looks of the R1200R, but rather think that Rick's bike (the R1200S) is drop-dead gorgeous.

You still should go ride a GS. It is the Teutonic variant of the Multi.

The 80 mile range is a deal breaker.

I'll look at the R1200 GS and the K1200's. But my love of naked bikes draws me to the R1200 R. Maybe I need to switch it up. I already have a naked bike.

The thing with the GS is brilliant performance no matter what you want to do, and the ability to slap bags on and ride 2-up most anywhere. When you're on the bike you can't see it so the look isn't as big a deal

Hyper is fun but a one-trick pony. It is a fun trick though...but the small tank gets razzes from every owner I know. There is a tank change you can do to extend the range though.

If you love naked then Speed Triple and Street Triple are other things to check out. I find the Street Triple to be a pretty small bike though - same monkey banging a football fit for me as the Monster.

That's one of my favorite naked bikes. Careful though, you might put an eye out with that thing...

I'm a sucker for orange though

it is a love it or hate it design. In person I think it looks bad ass. A neighbor had one at my old place. Angular, muscular, and scary fast. They also made a half-faired version for a year (K1200R sport). Another guy I met on the road flat out loved that bike

To mention the Multistrada in one sentence and then knock the looks of another bike in the next is ironic. The Multi, with its molded-in-color plastic, is the bike so fugly they can't even get paint to stick on it.

Ride that K bike and I'll bet you bring it home. It does everything you like about your V-rod, 100x better. Goes, stops, handles on an entirely different level. Remember...I walked in your shoes. Had an 07 V-rod for about a year. After about 3 months the K completely won me over. Ride the K (R or S). I dare ya!

The S has a bit more of a sporty riding position and a few more horsepower, along with a fairing that slices the wind and takes pressure off the rider. Both bikes can accept bags for touring and both will completely blow you away.

Subscribed.

I guess it takes all kinds---that K-bike is as ugly as anything I've ever seen on two wheels. IMO, of course...
