That has to be one of the coolest things I've even seen. Makes me almost want to stick an SC badge on the turbo. Hey, it was made in the right year.

Too bad we don't still have some 'old' technology 'Earthquake Bombs' of the 22,000 lb variety like the Brits used in WW II! Of course, they would tend to make ID'ing the remains of the bad guys a bit difficult ...

But, there sure would be plenty of room for Lee and his pals to scribble lots of 'Best wishes' on them!!!

Well, it makes me happy to know that you guys liked it.

It is in fact a MK31 J-DAM. It's a smart bomb except it doesn't use tv or lasers to guide it. Instead, you just enter GPS coordin's and let her fly.

It uses a Mk84 2000lb bomb as the base. You don't want to be within like a mile and a half of this daddy when she goes...

It was dropped a couple days ago. Our digital camera always has the date/time setting screwed up. I'm not smart enough to fix it.

We got specifics from the pilots about the mission in which it was dropped. I cannot give specifics, nothing would make me happier...but not until this is all over. Let's just say that it definately caught several, several clueless bastards off guard. And they didn't get a second chance.

Thanks Leland! You and the rest of the guys are making us proud! My brother-in-law (a USMC short timer - discharge originally expected Dec 28) was scheduled for deployment to Tajikistan last Saturday. However, after recent events with things advancing a little quicker than planned (maybe thanks to the "Pelican" bomb, huh? ) that deployment was possibly going to be cancelled. We haven't heard from him in almost two weeks so we're anxious to hear of his status. Nonetheless, you keep up the good work!

I must say that's certainly impressive.
As a U.S. citizen I'm deeply indebted to you Leland and all the soldiers over there U.S., British, non-Taliban Afghans and all else involved in the cause.
But Pelicanites let's not forget that war is killing people even if they are the enemy. I believe that this war is an unfortunate necessity.
The unfortunate thing is that these ignorant people were led down a dark path by a truly evil man and his group of cronies. A mistake that they are guilty of,culpable of and will pay for dearly.
I'm so lucky to live in a country with the freedoms I'm allowed and the sources of information I'm allowed to make educated decisions on global affairs.
One of the most disgusting things I've ever seen is this ******* pleased with himself at the number of deaths he achieved with those hideous acts committed on Sept.11. Those "infidels" were husbands, wives, sons, parents ... they had names and faces.
My point is that I don't want us to be guilty of dehumanizing any group of people. That is a sin that are enemy is guilty of.
I apologize in advance for this serious tone. But war is serious business not to be taken lightly.
I wish to celebrate a fast, successful conclusion to this war and above all the safe return of all the soldiers. Especially you Leland.

Thank You
Bobby

Bobby, there is no understanding of true evil. I could study Hitler, his rise to power, but there is no true understanding. Ditto Bin Laden and his followers. "Don't try to understand 'em, just rope, herd & brand 'em"...(Apologies to Rawhide) Way to go, Leland, get home safe!

Kick A$$! Thanks Leland!

On a serious note check this guy out, if you already have not heard of him: http://www.danielpipes.org/ Great middle east commentary telling you the truth no one else has authority or balls to tell... I have a feeling that unless we really pulverise the middle east "enemies" into cultural and sociological changes we will see continued violence in the area due to the Islamic fundamentalist leaders.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

bob, No one has forgotten the fact that war is brutal. People are losing their lives and limbs everyday. I don't think there is anyone who personally takes pleasure in destroying any life which does not meet his or her criteria... oops.. well there is "one" huh.

We didn't ask for this conflict... most people in Afganistan didn't either. We know that.

I can tell you this... does anyone remember when this all kicked off how the Taliban and Al Qeada were thumbing their nose at the US, saying that we (the US) wouldn't "Dare" set foot in their country... and if we did, we would meet the same fate as the Russians? And that they don't have any respect for supposed "Super Powers" because they beat the Soviets... and they were supposed to be a supper power....

Well, does anyone believe that they have maybe reconsidered their stance on thet belief!!

...don't mess with us.

Nice work Leland.

Hope you guys saved some of those GBU-31s for the rest of us.
We just got the software in our jets to drop those babies (F-14).

We'll be out there soon on USS JFK. It may be over in Afghanistan when we get there, but there are plenty of other targets.

Stay safe.

George, I know allot of pilots were hoping to use J-SOWs on them.
Any of you who have read Tom Clancys "The Bear and The Dragon" know what I'm talking about, but there just weren't any hard targets to hit!

Wait 'til I get home.. . then I can actually tell you the specifics about the mission it was dropped on.
Really cool, and erie in a way.
You have to remember that these weapons aren't wasted on suspected caves or something...these bad boys are very specific and deadly accurate.
Remind me to tell you guys what the Pelican bomb "did" when this is over.

Lee? You can count on that...oh yes, you can! BTW, I printed the bomb pic, showed it to a retired AF Sgt. here...he just shook his head, commented they sure didn't have anything like that during Vietnam...
