Looks like Verizon is going to be getting the Iphone in January. Any thoughts on that?

Similar reports/rumours are the main reason I've held off on getting a iPhone 4.

As long as you can't use data while talking on the phone forget Verizon.

I did some more testing of my co workers' iPhone 4s. On 3G only, WiFi turned off, it is still very sluggish to load web pages or Google Maps. Probably the problem is ATT's network here in my area of PDX, given what you guys are posting for results. But, forget it. I'm waiting on the 4 until ATT gets a lot better here, or VZ has the phone. I like the new features a lot and the responsiveness is much snappier, but I won't be happy signing up for another 2 years and $200, with the network performance as it currently is.

Another issue with iPhone 4 and IOS4 is now being widely reported: It doesn't play nice with Exchange. I know this will get fixed quick because a large part of its popularity is how well it has played in the corporate environment in he past.

I can't speak for JYL, but my partner upgraded her 3G phone to IOS4 and the performance is clearly slower. And we have no AT&T bandwidth issues in Charlotte.

Hal, I'm meaning that the test is showing Wifi speeds, not AT&T, or I'm questioning it.

James, the way I am reading his posts, he is refering to AT&T download speeds, not Wi-Fi speeds. Again, consistant with my partner's experience.

Me and a buddy sat in my office and did the same test 4g vs 3gs and my 4 was consistantly faster at 2.61, 2.67 and 2.65 MPS on the cellular network. His was in the 1.9's. I dont know why because 3g is 3g right??
On Wifi the 4g blows away the 3gs. Mine is consistantly geting 10+ MPS at home!!! Wireless N

David, had the 3GS phone been upgraded to the new IOS4?
And keep in mind that the name "iPhone4" has nothing to do with carrier speeds. Only Sprint has a 4G network and that is in the early stages of deployment. AT&T's 3G network is the next fastest network. . . Overloaded in many areas, yes, but still technically faster than Verizon.

Yes I am aware that 3G for both and both were running IOS4.

7+ seems too fast for AT&T, which is why I'm asking if Wifi was turned off before the test.

"Are you telling me that the above numbers shown for iPhones are with Wifi turned in?"
Mine was, I don't know about the others. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

OK, that sounds like AT&T's 3G capability. My speed test was not on Wifi, but on the T-Mobile 3.5G (HSPA+) system.

Using the HSPA+ wireless technology standard, the T-Mobile network currently delivers theoretical peak download speeds of 21Mbps1. T-Mobile’s rapidly expanding HSPA+ mobile broadband footprint makes it easy for customers to enjoy 4G speeds2 on existing mobile broadband devices such as the T-Mobile webConnect™ Rocket™ Laptop Stick. In addition, more than a dozen released T-Mobile devices benefit from these enhanced speeds, with two high-performance smartphones available next month — the T-Mobile® myTouch 3G Slide™ and the Garminfone™.
