Thanks guys, mopping up now. I'll post pic when I find my download cord for the camera, its in the stuff my neighbors carted away for me.

LA County Sheriff didn't miss a beat when all my brother and my spoons and three crates of spoon food came out of the safe. He just said "Throw all of that in the trunk and make sure you lock the car".

For the burned area you may want to plant something. Generally, the sooner it has something growing on it, the less the chances it washes away next time it rains hard.

I would encourage the use of some sort of mask if you do any cleaning up yourself, which you no doubt will be. Watch out for snakes! At least some of the ones that were on the black half are now on the brown/geen side of your yard.

Two firetrucks on standby overnight on the street. Replaced at 10 PM for a 24 hour watch. Like I said, when I find my camera download cord, I'll post pics. Amazing. Trimmed the trees, cleared brush back 200 feet like the fire dept wanted. It burned up to my Oak trees about 200 feet from the house. I cleared the grasses about 50 feet from the nearest Oaks. Battalion Chief said that is what did the trick.

I am glad to hear everything is safe. We get some pretty scary close calls down here as well.

wow hairy poo. glad ya had defensible space cleared. been thru this myself. ask me how i know. soon to be wifeys entire garage burnt to toast, parents place up a canyon burnt to toast, her dads multiple vintage vehicles burnt to a toast.

it aint fun and the fun only starts when ya start fighting with the insurance companies.

then the floods. no vegetation and it was FLASH FLOOD CITY USA!

and then dealing with the forest service who NEVER dropped slurry on ANY structures and had the HUEVOS to say "we dont do structures, we are wild land fire fighters only."

time to clear more defensible space, maybe hardpipe a sprinkler system kind of like farmers use to irrigate crops, have all yer extinguishers checked once a year and topped off.

wild land fires SUCK!

happy as hell all is well.

man made fire or lightning?

Too bad about the trees. You may have several avenues to getting cheap/free replacements. Well, not free, more like you already paid. Through the county, maybe BLM, or even some private outfit, there is a good chance you could get hooked up. The local electric company here gives away trees. The thinking is that the tree shades the house and you use less juice, but SMUD is definitly not in the Southland.

Some cocksucker has been throwing road flares to start grass fires around here. Driving home from a meeting last week it was like I drove into a fog bank.

Very distinctive smell to a grass fire.

Finally found my download cable for the camera

The fire started on Interstate 5 which is in front of this hill that burned. The fire dept thinks it was a toss cigarette butt. My house is on the other side of the hill that you see below.

My driveway

My backyard, about 100' from the house

More backyard

Bottom of my driveway

Gotta love the water dropping helos

Spoons and spoon food back in the safe
