Agreed. I was amazed- little external damage to the helmet-suspect my prexisting stenosis had a large role.

Tabby- no bikes for me for a long while, but never say never.

NS-street. was out to clear my head, bad idea on a sportbike

Thx. It happens quick- I think I unloaded the rear tire with too much front brake on entry, flicked the bike right intiating the slide, then released pressure allowing the rear to hook up suddenly-but dont really know as my mind doesn't allow me a look back

Glad to hear you are ok. "C" problems are a bear, I have a pinched nerve between C5 and C6, but its gotten better as the years have gone on.

Keep moving forwards and it will work out!

Ouch! Sounds like a violent get off, which high sides usually are.

I had something similar when I tucked the front end under braking going into turn one at Loudon NH (approx 90mph). I was trying to late brake and pass a few guys, was overly 'excited' and stabbed at the brake lever rather than giving it the smooth squeeze. Front wheel locked, then grabbed, and I was catapulted off straight into the tarmac. I never lost consiousness, so had alternating views of pavement and sky through my faceshield as I tumbled on the ground to a standstill. From my perspective it happened in a heartbeat, but others who witnessed said the bike hopped and bucked underneath me a few times before I was thrown. I was also a lucky SOB with 'only' concurrent fractures of my left collar bone and shoulder blade. I felt pretty gimpy for a while, but as soon as physical therapy started the progress was swift.

good luck recovering. sold my sportbike 2 months ago..the desire to ride on public streets goes away surprisingly quick. i thought it would be harder, but its actually pretty easy to give it up.

not sure ill ever ride again especially knowing that i refuse to wear anything more than sneakers and a tshirt....stupid, but getting dressed in full leather gear for a little ride through the country when its 85 degrees sucks....but, is required..ive just never been willing to do it.

Sorry to hear this! I compressed T-10 to 50% 4 years ago. Go to as much therapy as you can!

I spent 4 months with a chest brace on and a cast on my right foot up to the Knee for another month. I broke the calcanius (sp) off as well as one of the bones on the outerside of the ankle. I wonder how it affected the healing of my back with leaning to the left due to the height of the cast.

I iced the crap out of my back for three weeks straight trying to increase the blood flow to the area. Yes, I know that the trunk has a ton of blood flow but I wnted to do everything that I could to try to speed up the healing.

My crash was not as dramatic as yours. The bike just got away from me in a fast corner. That was 5 years ago last week.

I'm regularly tempted to buy another bike, but so far have resisted. Threads like this are good. They help to strengthen the resolve to stay off.

Greg congratulations on surviving what is at best a life altering and at worst a life ending event. And welcome to the Association of the Luckiest P h uckers on Earth. I too thought I'd never ride again. But now, 10 years after a C5 hyper flexion I'm living a very regular life with some adaptations. Stay strong in your faith in yourself and don't be afraid to ask for help.
