I do not even keep a spoon in my apartment. I am rarely here(pretty much only to sleep) and if I left a spoon here it would be like the most valuable thing here. I don't get too excited about a break in while I am here.... Its a nice neighborhood and "high crime" in this town is someone smashing out car windows for phones left in the car.

No spoons allowed down under. However, we do have a house full of field hockey sticks - about the same size as baseball bat, a little lighter but perfectly weighted and with a handy kevlar and fibreglass reinforced hook in the end.
I've seen the damage they can inflict on the field when hit by accident - totally silent too.

Kids in the house? Teach them fire arm safety at a early age. Take them out and show them how much damage a .22 can do by shooting a few rounds into a log and then split the log to show how far the bullet goes in and then ask the kids if the bullet would have gone thru them. It gets the point across.
Here we have to keep the ammo locked separately from the guns. So I have to put two keys in two different locks to be able to rack one in a pump shotgun. I figure I have more than enough time before someone gets past 85 lbs of "Mr. Kitty" and gets upstairs.

Well, anyone coming around our place would set off a driveway alert, anyone coming in from the back would also hopefully set off two alerts. I've set them up so whoever is out there can hear them go off too. Next we have seven motion sensor flood lights around the house. Then we have exterior doors one & three quarters inch thick, and all of our windows are tempered glass (required by fire code). Then we have the house security system. After that there are two 9 mm's, one by the bed & another somewhere else. If all else fails, I can have my wife open up with my 22.

I recommend keeping your plans to keep you and/or your family safe to yourself. If, God forbid, you get yourself into a situation where you had to defend yourself, a good lawyer will find your posts and argue that you were just itching for bad things. Doesn't matter if you have a firearm or sports equipment; all bad for you in civil court.
Consult a good lawyer now and follow their advice before anything bad happens. If you don't like your (new) lawyer's advice, get another one. But be legally armed. And this post is neither advice nor a suggestion. It's just more drivel found on the internet. |

Actually, springs don't take a "set". The mag follower may stick as a result of corrosion or gummed up lubricant, but frequent compression/decompression cycles are what make springs wear out. That's why you replace recoil springs after a specific round count.

Just a thought, I'm over the pond so the whole owning guns issues is different here, but can you really depend on a dog to attack a burglar??
I'm sure most dogs will give early warning by barking. But a criminal that wants to come inside and knows you have a dog, can he not bypass the dog problem very easily with a piece of meat, or sweets?? I've seen a myhtbuster-like episode of some show where they had to walk up to a safe that was inside an enclosure with several trained guard and attack dogs. (I believe they were Malinois) Nobody in there right mind would go in that enclosure, but all they did was take a rag dipped in pee of a B!tch in heat (sheesh, electronic mod doesn't even like female dogs....), put it in one side of the enclosure. All the dogs started sniffing the rag like crazy, the man opened the door and walked up to the safe, no problem... Or what if the perp simply shoots the dog before it attacks?? So can you really trust your dog to be anything more than an early warning?? What if he wakes you up, but you have no guns/weapons?

Years ago, with a big Great Dane guard dog... We were out of town, came home to find a burgled house.... Can't say for sure, but the thieves had probably scoped the place out and bought a big azz steak to distract our dog. Maybe the steak was drugged.

Angela, do you have a dog? I would recommend one, they discourage strangers. Female dogs tend to be a bit more protective in my experience, particularly around the house. When I was a kid we had this little terrier chow mix that was maybe 20 lbs. She kicked the crap out of this 100 lb German Shepard from up the street when it came too close to the yard when we were out front. It was truly amazing, looked like three little dogs all over one big dog. Point is, good dog will provide an nice alert in most cases.
Axe handle is always handy for me. My wife is a lighter sleeper than I and an excellent shot so the question is probably moot for me.

I would guess 10 second if I were in dead sleep. I have a small safe a few steps from the bed. Everything inside is locked and loaded.

Burn the fire.

To Original Topic:
Roughly 10 seconds. There's a useful weapon in almost every room of the house (bathrooms excluded). Handy-dandy 9mm is always loaded, safety on. Just rack & rock & roll.

hey i am well well aware of what the hell is going on w/home invasions, car jackings, random violence etc. why in the HELL do you think this state enacted SB 1070??????????????? the same damn reason florida allowed CCW after the mariel boat lift influx of kuban criminals. are problem isnt kubans(actually some locked up in fed med security north of me) ITS ILLEGAL MESSIKANS DEALING METH/HEROIN!!!!! and everyone calls them "dumb-asses". the reality is they are smart as hell. they dont go to south phx/guadalupe to sell dope, no $ there,...............they go to the high end zip codes right to the high schools and deal. and where theres money there is guns and violent crime aka turf wars. until that damned border is sealed, its gonna continue. i was lazy last night.............it was a walther ppk/s and a marlin 1895GS kind of night. today is a walther ppk/s as i was lazy and didnt feel in the mood to change rigs. its a nice damn luxury being able to change things up when the mood strikes. actually as i drank my coffee thjis early am i swabbed my new marlin 1895GS bore down with shooters choice(its a virgin barrel), applied micro-grain polishing compound, and polished the living hell out of that bore. because i CAN, becuz i'm anal about accuracy and function. and becuz this old cowboy taught me about the wonders of polishing a virgin barrel. and thats how i roll with every damn one of them. and as far as springs taking a "set". i have heard both sides of this conundrum countless times. i dont know what to believe. but as far as a "carry spoon", i kind of follow my AZCCW instructor and friends(hes mcso court security here for the justice court-carries a .45 on hip, and a snubby .38 on ankle) advice................i rotate mags once a week, and empty the mags and refill weekly. i only buy factory mags. and when ya carry.............lint does get everywhere. so spending 5 minutes a week cleaning them is worth my possible life. this is the REAL DEAL................reality is crime has gotten worse EVERYWHERE! if for one moment any of you think yer safe in yer gated community...............yer just stroking yerselves silly. i hate having to carry everywhere. its a GIANT PITA! and my side every stinking day. but i am not going to be a statistic. i refuse flat out. heres how i have to think today when i leave work today to vote.............i have to remove my spoon when entering polls. that way i am legal. if i go out to eat i have to look for posted signs stating no firearms. i have to be aware at all times of where i go, and what i do. and obviously my surroundings. its not a paranoia thing, its called BEING AWARE and STAYING WITHIN THE LAW! the other night i found out why the ghetto bird was circling my house. 60 something year old guy out for a bike ride is missing. this is just north of ricksters house and west of me. this aint no slum, its some high end properties. crime does happen anywhere and everywhere at anytime. (4) banks have now been robbed up here. there is a spat of bizzness burglaries up in town. the circle k in town was just robbed and on and on it goes.

leaving a spoon for a badguy to find.................is just plain bad JU JU! always always ALWAYS SECURE YER SPOONS IN A SAFE! even if you leave for the grocery/parts store for 20minutes. the WORST case EVAR would be coming back in your home and having that mossberg leveled at you with yer arms full of grocerys or beemer/porschen parts. if i am working on a spoon out in my shop or garage, the safes are always locked and i have a loaded spoon in my pocket. when i am done working on spoon back in the safes it goes. too many people get nailed by bad guys when they dont keep their spoons in a safe. hell if i broke in a house the 1st place i would look would be under the bed, night stand, closet, dresser drawers, behind pictures, under pillows, in jackets, you know all the stoooo-pid stash spots. when i have FOUND YOUR GUN I AM NOW EMPOWERED! and thats when it gets ugly. always ALWAYS SECURE YER SPOONS!

Thus your kid will be the one who gets shot, by his little friend who you haven't trained in firearm safety. Good result.
