So, vet must have said negative to feline lukemia...that's great news! Enjoy the ride!

We brought home 3 kittens to our 17 year old cat years ago. He was not amused either. We had a stray adopt us 3 years ago. He was 4 years old and neutered already. Coolest cat in the world. He's a Maine Coon. Heres a pic of one.

Too big to fail

We have 2 semi-feral cats - a momma and her kitten - that live in the back yard, and 3 semi-feral cats that live in the front yard. We used to have just one food bowl, in the front, but the mom would come around from the back yard and mix it up with the "front" kitties to get to the food. We tried moving the food bowl to the back yard, but the front kitties knew they weren't welcome back there. The solution was a food bowl in the front and one in the back - everyone is fat and happy, but we're spending $10 a week to feed the outside cats; we tried the cheep $5 cat food, but they wouldn't eat it. When a feral cat doesn't touch a bowl for food for 2 days, you know it's crap grub. She'll wolf down a bowl of food in a matter of minutes. Every morning when we get up, she's sitting at the sliding door with her face pressed against the glass; it's kind of sad, actually. I think she really wants to be an inside cat.
Momma will let us pet her, but not pick her up. Tigger (so-nammed because he bounces on his hind feet) won't let you get within 20' of him. The two black-and-white 'front' cats (Phantom and Carlotta) are very tame now, and we can pick them up. We had them fixed, too. The Calico - Callie - is still too skittish, but she's getting there. It looks like Callie and Momma are both preggers. I'm guessing it was Phantom, before he went under the knife. I'm not a "cat person" per se, and I don't mind feeding them and all, but when I found cat pee all over my car cover, I was less than pleased. The wife came with 2 elderly cats, and then she just had to adopt an 11-month old kitten. The inside kitten likes to play with the outside kitten through the screen. Those are big cats...certainly not huge cats.

Cats are like women. The ones already there resent it if you bring a new one home...

Give him his own litter pan...AND GET TO THE VET...HAVE HIM TESTED FOR FELINE LUKEMIA. I hope he hasn't shared a water dish with the other two. IF he's positive for feline lukemia, it may be too late for them.

I'm keeping them separated.
The kitten sits on my lap for a while then back into kitten jail cell with private food, water and kitty box. We have our favorite vet here in town. How is the feline luke spread? KT

Not sure of ALL the ways it is spread, but I do know sharing drinking water source or food bowls can do it.

I had a cat once I got from the "Cat Protection Society." All the cats there were supposedly given their shots and tested for feline leukemia. She was maybe 6 months old when I got her. I had her fixed and checked out by the vet. About a year later I noticed she was drooling, so I took her to the vet. He said she had an infection in her mouth & prescribed antibiotics. A few months down the line, she got another infection which was again cured with antibiotics. A couple of months after that I noticed she had a big swollen area under her jaw and neck. Took her back to the vet who said she had another infection and treated it. Later her abdominal area swelled up and seemed like she had some kind of edema. This time he tested her for feline leukemia, which came back positive. He said she was OK as long as she had her kitten immunity, but once that wore off she would continue to get infections and said in the condition she was, he couldn't do anything for her. She got worse fast and I had to have her put to sleep. I'll never consider getting a cat from one of those places again.
