An dentel assistant in my practice is retiring at the end of the year. She has been with the practice 42 years. I am interested in giving her a nice gift from the office for her loyalty, but I can think of nothing that is both appropriate for a gift and representative of the gratitude we have for her. Any Ideas fellas?
Thanks.

Timepieces seem the most common. I don't know why since I doubt retires want to know what time it is.
Maybe a nice watch or mantle clock.

How about a new crown?
Man, 42 years is a long time to work anywhere. A dental office is a small place which makes it even more remarkable. She got along with the staff for a long time. And you don't know what to buy her after 42 years of being in a small office with this woman? Then just show her the money, she will find the right place to spend it. PS, you might "subsidize" what the staff is planning to give her. |

I highly doubt the OP has been there for 42yrs.... I suspect she was there when he got there....

How about a vacation...short cruise, airline tickets...I'm sure she has plenty of "stuff".

My partner just died last week and he was 95, he started the practice in 1938. I have only been here 8, but the staff is family.

Didn't think of that. Still, even 8 years is a long time in a small office. I would think that I knew a lot in a year or two. My wife has been in one small office for 8 years. Even I know the names of all the kids, grandkids, pets and many other "habits" of the other players.

A nice celebration dinner party with her family and coworkers and a small gift to be presented at the dinner.
The gift should be something personal, as she has worked there so long. Get the coworkers involved, I'll bet they know what she likes / wants for a gift.

free dental work for life. Seriously - dental for the old folks can be a big deal.
Probably wouldn't be received immediately as awesome as a retirement trip would be though.

Does she have any hobbies or interests? Example: if she likes to scrapbook then get her a gift certificate at a place that sells scrap-booking supplies. If no idea, a gift certificate to cover dinner for 2 from a really nice restaurant (assuming she's married) or a mall gift certificate if she's single.
No matter what you do, add a check to it.
