I missed something here...oh well

Quote:

If I were ordering an '11 GT, I'd go base model, insisting only on the 3:73 limited slip and the Brembo brakes. 6 speed for the gearbox, of course.

On the other hand, I think the '09 body is more attractive than the current style...
a taste thing for sure.
Do all the GT's come with 3.73? I have the base model without the Brembo's. My car is not home yet and because it is techically not new (a US Import with 60miles) I do not think I will get the window sticker. How do I tell?

As for the looks, personally I like tthe front look better (meaner) and the rear end of the 2009 models.

3.73 is optional, as are the Brembos...not sure if 3.73 automatically means the carbon fiber limited slip, either...so you'd want to check on that.

FWIW, ALL '08-'09 Bullitts have the 3.73 with limited slip...:D

kaisen 12-10-2010 05:41 PM

Brembo is $1695 option, 3.73 is $395 option. All V8s are carbon discs in limited slip.
Even older ones can be upgraded, it's cheap and easy from Ford Motorsports. In fact, you can buy the whole Traction-Lok unit with the carbon discs for about $250!! That's less than the bolts and shims cost in a Porsche differential (oops, sorry, not meant to be inflammatory)

pwd72s 12-10-2010 05:44 PM

Reg...if you have the VIN, the dealer should be able to print out the sticker for you.

Reg 12-10-2010 06:27 PM

Thanks Paul! I'll ask when I pick it up. I am waiting for a call. The city where I purchased it just received 3-4 feet of snow this week so they are running behind. I should have snapped a few pics.

I hate to drive it on a salty road but will pick as best of day as I can and then wash it off when I get home. Some said to flat bed it but that would prob add a couple hundred and it could still get some spray anyways.

Hmmm, I might have gone for the flatbed? But then, I have an abnormal fear of salt...

Good luck either way. On the sticker, my dealer printed out the stickers of several Bullitts available from NW dealerships. I asked him to print out extras when I selected my car...it was no problem for him.

mossguy 12-10-2010 06:35 PM

Reg,

If you flatbed it, the spray if any will most likely be mostly on the painted surfaces, i.e. bodywork, which is easily accessible to wash off. If you drive it, the spray will also be underneath, in, on, and around the suspension, and in every nook and cranny that can't be seen until the rust shows.

Best,
Tom

Reg 12-10-2010 06:41 PM

Thanks Tom.
I wonder if they'll test drive it at the dealer before I pic up anyways? I can check the miles or ask them before I drive down to get it. It would be moot if they put 5 miles on it and then flat bed. They have to "safety" it because it is considered a used car which I assume requires a road test but maybe they'd forgo it because of the 60 miles on the odo.

kaisen 12-10-2010 06:43 PM

So Reg, you were just talking about a M3, and chose a 2011 Mustang GT instead?

Good choice!

Reg 12-10-2010 07:00 PM

Yeah, your're right. I drove the M3 & loved driving it but with further research and some issues with unknowns on that car - I passed. What got me on this Mustang was I had one over 20 yrs ago (LX 5.0 coupe) and the value. A couple unforseen issues on the 9 yr old M3 makes up the diff. in cost for basically a new car. Indeed not as refined, but should be a fun ride.

Ironically, I should mention this car I purchased is from a Ford dealer who bought the car from I think a B lane (maybe name mistaken) Ford dealer only auction. The story is that it was rejected by the first ordered dealer. I was told it had a blem or ding on the one side when driven off the truck. Car went back to Ford, panel replaced and then resold with disclosure.

Purchase is conditional upon my inspection of the car and its records. From what I saw of it it looks great. The car was $$$ off a new Canadian model. I thought maybe you have had experience with these types of cars and make a comment.

kaisen 12-10-2010 07:15 PM

Manufacturers will sell cars that were damaged before delivered to or accepted by the dealership as used cars. They are sold at Ford 'closed' (Ford-dealer-only) auction with damage disclosures. The good news is that rarely is there a CarFax entry for the damage. There is no insurance claim. It's common for Canadians to buy those cars as where else would they find used new cars?

If it were very light damage, they'd be fixed and sold as new. They've had decent damage (panel replacement or significant paint) before they'd go that route. But when they're five years old, who cares. If it was a good deal and you're going to drive it for awhile, it's a smart move.

Reg 12-10-2010 07:21 PM

Carfax is clean. I think it shows clean because it was under $3000? It was on the pass side back quarter I believe.

Thanks for your input!

Even if it were $5000 it wouldn't show on CarFax unless there were a police report, insurance claim, or some other public record associated. If a forklift backs into it on Ford's property, they just fix it, sell it used, and move on. No record.

I bought a couple dozen Chryslers, Dodges, Jeeps, and Mercedes from DCX several years ago that had been damaged by storms while waiting in rail yards. Still had plastic. But each car had significant damage (over $1K). Some were already fixed but disclosed, others were still damaged. It was a VERY profitable endeavor, and customers loved the savings.

Careful as warranties start the moment it is decided they are not being sold as new. So while they may have negligible miles, they may be a few months into warranty.

Sorry in advance for this one Paul, I just caint hep myseff:

LOL, this is another funny one. It also demonstrates that "some" Porsche drivers are a tad ..... well let's just call them eccentric and high-strung.........

pwd72s 12-12-2010 07:28 AM

LOL at the vids, guys...Anybody else think that Clarkson's rocket launcher improved the lines of the 944?

(edit)...I recall AUTOMOBILE running an article, comparing the 944 Turbo to the 911 of the time...they raving about the 944 balance & handling...

I recall thinking "Maybe so, but it's sure an ugly mudder focker."

My car arrived yesterday. To date only driven around the laneway to park it till spring. The window sticker was obtained online by using the VIN at Ford. She is a base GT. Zero options. It has the 3.31 rear end but should still move out plenty fast enough. :Dhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1292730868.jpg

Reg-

Congratulations! That's a great looking car! The 3.31 will be deep enough, for sure. If you want to go limited slip at some point let me know. They just bolt in. I can get Ford Motorsports Traction-Lok units cheaper than just about anywhere in North America.

pwd72s 12-19-2010 07:32 AM

Agreed, even with the 3:31, you should have no problems in the stop light gran prix...unless you come across one with the 3:71. ;)

That 5.0 is one amazing engine...lots of goodies!

As far as spring? Winter begins tomorrow, IIRC. Just keep telling yourself that the daylight hours are getting longer. :D

I was hot to buy a 370Z when the tests started coming out. Then I sat in one. At 6'3", 250, with a 34" inseam it was a no go. I could sit in the car, barely...but my head was touching the headliner, and my knees were splayed on either side of the steering wheel. Yes, I had the seat set as low & as far back as it would go.

No contest when it comes to comfort...my '09 Bullitt has it all over the Z. Even with my lowly 4.6, power feels adequate, and with my 3.73 gears instead of the standard 3.31, I should have a slight drag race edge over the 370Z.

All that said? If I was 5'10" or under, I may have gone with the 370Z...it's a great little package. Emphasis on "little".

Reg 12-19-2010 10:20 AM

The 3.31 is still limited slip (all ratios are in the GT). I am 6'0 and seem to fit in the car nice. There is a fair jag of plastic inside but the throttle and clutch/shifter feel good in the lane way. I'll post more pics once I get in and drive the car come spring.

I'm curious as to it's performance as most of the road tests are using the Brembo pack and different gears.

Reg, reports from Mustang boards suggest your standard brakes stopping distances will be fine. Where the Brembos shine over the standard brakes is better, longer lasting performance when brakes get hot. In other words, Brembos are better on track days only. Some avid autocrossers use smaller brakes for less unsprung weight.

I'm pretty sure you'll be enjoying the ride as the car sits. Then, after a few thousand miles, like most "car guys", you will start thinking about mods.

I've been resisting mods so far....;)

Reg 12-19-2010 10:32 AM

I'm already thinking about the strut brace Paul :)

BTW - what is the better Mustang board to go to? I will always enjoy reading through PPOT though.

pwd72s 12-19-2010 10:41 AM

For all Mustangs, I kinda like this one:
Ford Mustang - GT - Shelby - Cobra - Classic Mustangs

But there are tons of them out there...

My main Mustang hangout is a Bullitt board:
IMBOC - Powered by vBulletin

Another:
Mustang Forums - Powered by vBulletin

That ought to get ya started. I'm sure you'll find others, parts souces, etc. :D

pwd72s 12-19-2010 10:45 AM

Parts sites for Mustangs also abound...

Mustang Parts & Performance - American Muscle

CJ Pony Parts - Ford Mustang Parts

You'll find others by surfing the boards..

Even with it spelled out in big letters on the side - I would have someone in the car beside it in a parking lot, tell me "Nice Ferrari" as I got into it. >_<
