My daughter got a tatoo on her lower back because "all my friends are doing it". Five years later....."Dad, you were right, I should have never gotten that tatoo."
Not to mention she doesn't see those friends anymore.

I worked as a cowboy for a while in my youth. One of the toughest, coolest old men I ever met had a unique view of tattoos. This guys nose had been broken several times in fights and it showed. His face was scarred from a deck accident on a fishing boat. He was missing toes from logging in Alaska in sub zero weather. He had scars all over from his days as a bull rider. Tattoos? He said, "Son, if you're doing it right, life will mark you up just fine."

He thought tattoos were for posers.

That statement is so full of win.

When I was younger, I thought I wanted a tat but could not decide on anything. Instead I opted for piercings. I went through about a year of my life adding piercings.

Once that phase of life had passed me by, I removed the metal and was mostly back to a normal appearance. No lasers or dermabrasion were required.

Some of you guys need to lighten up.. when I read this I presumed he was being humorous.

My brother past away a few years back... I was thinking of getting his name and birth/passing dates... but still haven't done it.

No ink otherwise.

I don't understand making a public display out of a private tragedy. True loss is intensely personal. A tattoo makes it less so. Seems like a way to show the world that you've suffered. Just my opinion...

But hey... pasting the same info in the back window of your car with vinyl letters is way kewl... right?

Also IMHO the cartoonish cat on the guys back... fail.

If you're going to get one, may as well go for a classic: Mr. Horsepower

What, not a well set up 944? That would be much cooler.

I always thought a barber pole would be pretty cool. You could even call it a candy cane this time of year. Ho ho ho...

During my time researching the islands of American Samoa (long story) I met a few of those guys. Their tattooing is taken serious and I doubt any of them every woke up regretting it. That's the kind that is worth it.

I always thought that was the logo from Thrush mufflers (which some p-cars *may* run). I guess the cigar makes it a different logo, tho.

After careful consideration, I have decided to implement a 3 step plan - kinda like quitting smoking.

First I am going to go to the dollar store and get some temporary tattoos - you know the ones that they give out a kid's birthday parties. I'm going to experiment with different artwork and locations so see how I like having a tattoo. If I decide to change my mind, a litle bit of soap is all I need to make it go away.

Once I decide on a design, and location, I am going to get a henna tattoo and see how this works out.

If I decide to take it to the next step, I'll get the real deal tattoo.

Great! That way if you ever do something silly and get put in the "house of doors" your cellmate will have something to look at while pounding away.
