A big thanks to 911Rob !
Haven't seen him around much lately, but I want to give him a loud, public THANKS for being so generous with his time and advice when I started in real estate a year and a half ago. This is a tough business, especially starting out, and he gave me some real "meat and potatoes" advice that very directly impacted how I do business. This is the kind of stuff that most realtors are lucky to learn over 5-10 years of solid business, and Rob was kind enough to share it with me.
I got laid off a year and a half ago with a small severance package and a 7mths pregnant wife. My first year was TIGHT, and there were times when I didn't have any more business on the books, and didn't know when the next lead (or check) would be rolling in. It all worked out, but looking back at the deals I did, there were some that were very directly tied to advice Rob gave me. This year I started out with a bit more traction and confidence, and I have had a really strong year. I closed a small deal yesterday that *just* put me into my year-end sales goal, and the next tier of sales levels at the office. Compared to last year (I was scared ###less), it's a very merry and comfortable Christmas. I feel like I can relax. I'm going into next year with a strong plan, much of it based on advice from Rob. It's great to go online and help people out with their hobbies, projects and daily nuisances... it's a helpful community that way. But sometimes the effect of our advice is much more profound. For me, it meant hitting the ground running and succeeding in a tough business that I really love. Thank you Rob, not just from me... but from my whole family.

thanks paul. It's actually hard to articulate the impact to how I live. I've gone from a 9 year job that was grinding the life out of me, where my job security was a publicly traded commodity... to a job that puts me 100% in control. I know people don't think of real estate sales when they think of secure, stable jobs... but for me it is the first time I have ever really felt like my effort and work is whorthwhile and appreciated.
My favorite part is that my daughter (who was born the day after I got my RE license!) will grow up in a house where her parents have jobs that they love. Again, hard to explain without going overboard... but my point is that sometimes we don't recognize the impact we have, when we are typing away on PPOT, thousands of miles away. Someone was VERY generous with their time, and really impacted me and my family.

Jake, I have a feeling Rob lives his life to help others. He knows how to enjoy himself, but also takes care of others. Good for both you and him!

Jake,
Glad to hear things are going so much better for you and Mrs. NFN (and little one!) I agree. The Pelican Brain Trust is an amazing resource. If you can think of a problem, someone on this board has probably already BTDT, and is willing to tell you how they got through it. I have yet to make it back to Saint John to return the favor of a meal and great company (my bad), but want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. All the best to you and to all Pelicans. Les

Glad to hear the good news.
There's a good reason why this is the bestest car forum...ever. Heck, even guys that don't own a Porsche any longer still hang out with us.

That's a great story. Indeed I am without a Porsche but still pop in here to either have a laugh, learn something, or ask something. It's a simple pleasure. Thanks to all!

Great to hear Jake. It strikes me you are a "Rob" just with fewer years under your belt.
Merry Christmas and may you have a happy, healthy and prosperous 2011!
