9 this is a dovo inox. i also like double duck. removing a heavy beard is easy with a straight razor. also good for when you want a straight line, outlining a beard. sharpening and stroping is an art.
might as well get the badger hair brush, soap, and mug. shaving this way can take a while.

Straight razor shaving is well worth learning, I threw away my safety 5 or 6 years ago. Count on a few months to get comfortable with it though, and the chances are you'll have a few minor facial injuries while learning, everybody does.

Sharpening is a real art that takes time to learn, and If your razor isn't seriously sharp you'll fight to get a good shave.

So you've got to learn to shave and to sharpen, but once you've got it sorted it doesn't take much longer than a safety and it's so much more rewarding.

As a kid I rember watching my great uncle shave himself with a straight razor. He had done it all his life and it was terrifying to watch.

Have to disagree - the 5-blade Fusion really does yield excellent results and is hard to nick/cut yourself with. Blade replacements aren't cheap but you get what you pay for...

Agree, this is an excellent razor and not going backwards in this part of my life.

First off, its not "junk," its my crotch.

Second use electric hair trimmers with the #1 or #2 comb on it and works very well.

i was so sick of shaving with the disposables, that i hadn't done it in about a week.

so, i chickened out on the straight razor for two reasons: i don't think i have the coordination to not slit my throat and i don't have the cash to buy what i want in a straight razor/accoutrement.

what i did buy was an edwin-jagger safety razor and some proper soap. i didn't buy a brush, as the cheapest they had was over $50. i have a brush somewhere, i just can't find it. then i bought blades; the local grocery store only had the cheapest store brand :( but, what the hell, its an experiment. so, i still spent about $60, and i am looking for my brush.

i came home and lathered up as good as possible with the soap and a washcloth and shaved with my new equipment. i must say that it was much easier, faster, less messy and i got a better shave, even though i was practically shaving dry. i am pretty happy with the results. next time, i'll shave directly after showering so that the whiskers are softer.

thanks for the input, guys. perhaps in a few months i'll pony up for the straight razor. those 'dovo's' look very very nice. the tinderbox sells them locally.
