For the Guitar Lovers and Woodworkers out there
Fellow Pelicans,
For those of you interested in fine guitars, lutherie or woodworking in general -- check out my brother's guitar building blog--he is a luthier working out of Golden, Colorado and maintains a project log with pictures and videos of his guitar projects--to include all the steps of building each one. I think it is pretty cool -- hope you enjoy it. Marshwood Guitars Thanks, Adrian |

Cool. I used to build acoustic guitars for fun. I even built an F5 mandolin. There's nothing like playing a song you wrote, with a guitar you built.
Does your brother actually make a living? I used to meet with other luthiers, and one of our favorite jokes was, "What do you call an unmarried luthier? Homeless." Most luthiers I knew, who did it for money, made their bread and butter on repairs. But it can be a successful enterprise. Just ask Mr. Gibson or Mr. Taylor. If it's not a good living, at least it's a good life.

Charlie,
Thanks for the comments and checking out the site--he maintains a day job and also teaches a lutherie class at the local community college--as you noted making a living as a guitar builder is tough going--but he has a passion for it and makes some really excellent guitars. Thanks again, Adrian |
