We have plenty of 75 mph stretches, but 85 is ticket territory.

wow. i drove to las vegas recently. quite a bit of it was 80MPH speed limit. i like to go fast, don't get me wrong, but 80+ seemed a bit to much. things happen really quick at that speed.

The areas that are presently 80 are in West Texas. On I-10, once you get about 1/2 hour outside San Antonio, the limit is 80 for passenger vehicles during daylight hours, 75 for trucks. Night time the limit drops to 70/65.
I expect that they are just going to bump the limit up 5, or bump it to 85 for some limited areas.

Drove the Tahoe 600+ miles roundtrip from DFW area to Lubbock last weekend.
Speed limits outside of towns was 75, averaged 85 hitting 95 for stretches. Mostly one lane in each direction. 10 hours of driving and saw one cop but that was in the middle of a town. Shoulders are nice and wide so if you come up on a rolling roadblock they just slide over onto the shoulder and let you pass.

Yes, it has been two weeks now. I enjoy it, and cannot wait to get my familly here, even though I live in a 1 bedroom appt. for now. The weather, skies and mountains are awesome. Now, I just need my NJ house to sell and the ombilical cord will be cut for real.

What do they do for money? Have they found a more honest way to balance the state's budget?

So every Tom Dick and Harry is going to be busting along at 85+ mph? That's pretty damn fast. On the autobahn, where people know how to drive, okay. In the US, hmmm.

Quote:
Yes, 57 is fast in Seattle. 80 is the flow of traffic in Los Angeles when the traffic is moving. 85 is a just speed. 65 was the speed limit in the '50's. We're not driving hudsons any more.

I always thought Montana was a go-fast state. Not that I know (being a dirty foreigner) as it was dark when I drove through.
