Very proud of my stepson
Just completed his final final exam...Graduates from Ole Miss tomorrow. I bet him a summer in Europe backpacking and travelling the continent via Eurorail if he graduated in 4 years. Time for me to pay up. And happy to do so.
Leaves in 2 weeks starting out in London...then to Paris and parts unknown for 8 weeks as the wind blows him.

Kudos to you both...especially to you for not welching on the bet, considering the situation.

That is an awesome achievement to graduate in four years. I wish I had made that bet with my son....it would have been cheaper on me if he had graduated in four but I'm proud of the fact that he graduated from Auburn last week after five years. Better late than never!

Damn my prize for graduatig with a job lined up in four years was the gift that I didn't have to pay my own way for that 5th year.

Congratulations to your son. It's pretty easy to get sidetraked at Ole Miss.
What's his degree in? My wife is an administrator in LibArts. If your trying to get anywhere in Oxford this weekend, leave early. Between softball, baseball (Ole Miss vs Miss State) and graduation traffic is a mess already. J |

Good show of character, Jim! This will help provide him direction on his own future. And one small act of kindness on your part (well many really) will pay out dividends in the future!

1) A man of his word is rare. There are always "circumstances". Be proud that you didn't let them be an excuse.
2) I graduated in four years with a double major (finance and computer science) 8 credit hours more than needed. I would have graduated with honors, but I got a "B" in golf my final semester.... (Should have taken it pass/fail.) I had no home to go back to, so I didn't have an option on the timing.

Attended his graduation Saturday in the beautiful Grove at ole Miss. Wonderful commencement. I escorted his grandmother and it was good as his mom and sisters went separately. Paternal Grandmothe (who is the kids adoptive mother you recall) wanted me to be there as I , to quote her, would be the only male relative attending (his father was killed in mcycle accident in 2009).
Was invited by stepson to lunch with the family (sisters, their bf's , the Ex and gramdmother to lunch)...had good time, x was pissed he invited me, but it was his day and I picked up the tab for the table. X and insisted she pay for hers...told her fine... give it to the waitress. Gave the stepson a travel guide and letter from me and check for his summer to cover airfare, eurorail, hostel $ etc. He went ahead and opened it but didn't let anyone see...he was really touched by the letter and gesture. Grandmother followed me back to jACKSON. As we were exiting she pulled up beside my car and said "Do you still drink?" I said yeah and figured she wanted to buy me a bottle of scotch as appreciation. Then she said.."Can I buy you a drink?" We went to a nice reastaurant and had cocktails and then dinner. She thanked me profusely for what I had been to my stepson....alll in all a great day. BTW ...I heard x was somewhat miffed that the check I gave stepson for his summer was almost as much as what I paid her for total property settlement agreement. Life is sweet. Even unintended irevenge is a dish best served cold.
