Bike Guys... Moto Guzzi?

I started riding when I was very young then in my 20's (very early 1990's) I bought my first street bike, a Harley. I had a series of Harley's until about 5 years ago and racked up the miles until my son was born.

I really have the itch these days but I cant ride a Harley anymore there are just way too many everywhere you go.

I have been looking at the Moto Guzzi something like the V-11 ( used ) or maybe a Ducati. I want a sport tourer not a full blown sport/track bike.

I prefer something a little off the beaten path thats why I have not looked all that close at any of the popular Japanese bikes.

Whats anyones experience with a Guzzi?

Been looking at 2000 and up with a price cap at about $7500

Thanks for the opinions.

I've been on the BMW sport tourers for about 15 years now. But had been on a Guzzi for a bit prior to that. I much prefer the beemer.

look for the later than 2002 Guzzi.
LeMans is good these have the frame braces that reduce the wobble factor that the earlier bikes had,
also you may find peeling coatings on the blacked out engines.

The clue to to frame is the small tubes that run along the lower edge of the oil pan

Well I have looked at this in some detail, and just can't pull the trigger on a Guzzi. They seem to want a heck of a lot of $ for the HP.

I went to a dealership recently to check out the V7. Its a small, 750cc bike. The tank is plastic, and shakes when the bike idles. The bike looks neat, but $7500 neat? Get real. You could buy a pair of well sorted mid 70s CB bikes for the same price, that would frankly be much cooler.

takes some skill and some balls, but you can have a lot of fun with 80hp.

thought the rosso corsa was beautiful. i've heard talk of slow parts delivery, flakey build quality, prima donna mechanics, and other italian bike bull**** stories about them though.

In a similar situation. Looking for a Duc or a Guzzi, but leaning toward Ducati only because there's a dealership here in town. Guzzi service would be a major pain. But supposedly this bike is coming to the US this fall. Would make the pain much more tolerable:

I have been looking at some older used models.... early 2000's stuff keeping the budget realistic. I just want something a bit different and probably air cooled, especially on an older Italian bike for mechanical simplicity and so I can handle most jobs.

If you want something off the beaten path but still modern/reliable with a service network have you looked at Triumph? Though not a sport touring bike (but could be made into one) their Speed Triple is incredible.

Another would be the Aprilia Tuono.

I noticed a watermark down the bottom of the pic davida .co.uk so she is just doing some modeling for a helmet company I had a look to see if there were more pics of her.

Edit, Mike the Chocaholic, wow that is the bike! I think I prefer that bike to my girl (well not actually my girl).

Once upon a time, they were selling copies of her photo as a poster. I don't recall the details but I'd bet you could find it if you looked for it.
