25 meters sounds like a lot but it works. Try it sometime.

The last hand gun I used was a Browning High power in the Army (20 years ago). There was a pistol club in the battalion I served with. I helped start the club with the Doctor who was serving as the MO for the battalion. If you can believe that.
We used to shoot every Tuesday evening but I often got to the range two or three times a week or on weekends.

OK, now the absolute truth.

When I was at my best I could shoot a 5 round group that was 4 inches across at 25 meters.

No custom work or sites. Just a standard browning High power with mil spec ammo.

I do understand why people shoot at closer ranges but IMO you need to get back a bit so you can see were your rounds are falling.

Four inches across at 25 meters is good! LOL.

I like the 9mm (CZ 85 Combat), but I can't believe how well .38 wadcutters shoot. I've just bought reloading dies so I can dust off the S&W model 28-3 and get some lead down range.

The 1911 and 380 get practical accuracy - pie plate at 25 yards. The 22 pistol goes for 2-3 inch groups at 25, and the rimfire rifles go for bug holes at 25, nickles at 50, and 2" or less at 100 yards. The big rifle goes back to pie plates but out to 300 yards w/ irons.

15 to 30 feet. Using the front sight only, I shoot 3-4 inch groups in double and triple taps. My hand guns are not for target shooting, they are defense weapons. I practice at self defense distances and on the draw.

I shoot alone, and don't have access to a public range, and really am looking for feedback as to how I am shooting, and what I could do better. I'm quite pleased to think that experienced shooters consider my results pretty good.

Years ago I shot at a public range with a friend who had a 617, 629 and a Glock of some sort. I shot ok with the .22, better with the .44, and horrible with the 9mm. I don't recall the distance 15 maybe 25 yards, and from a bench. I remember seeing the ground chewed up from errant shots and wondering who was that bad, but when only 2 or 3 out of 5 from that Glock punched holes in the paper, I started to suspect myself.
