The Speed Triple is a sweet bike but it may be a bit more then I am looking for in terms of comfort and all around usability.
I am looking at a couple of Ducati ST series.

Looking for a similar bike myself. A couple Duc's (620SS and Sport1000) in my past, but older now and looking for something sporty, but more upright riding position... occasional 2-up use
Looked at the Monster 800 and Aprilia Shiver 750... nice bikes, but trying to keep the budget down. Tuono and V11 are candidates Guzzi is the air-cooled classic but heavier, known for torque steer and vibrations at cruising speeds. Tuono a 'better bike' on paper... far more modern but style is not so much to my liking Analog vs Digital, in some ways... Gonna have to ride both, I guess...

I like the V-11 series a lot. I have looked at a couple of the Ducati ST line, specifically the ST2 and the ST4. They give you a lot of sport with a bit more relaxed riding position and the bags for touring. Trying to keep the budget reasonable all in.

I'm gonna go out on a limb...How about a Buell S3T. I really enjoy my old style tube fram Buells. The do require attention in maintenance but they're as simple as a hammer. If somewthing goes awry the nearest harley shop can provide you with all parts and service. Really nice low mile examples can be had for under $5K.

from your sig line, it seems you have a couple of buells already. personally, i'd never own anything powered by harley (i'd definitely own the 1125R, but i digress). i say go with what you know. i like the buells in terms of styling and tech, everything but the engine.

The Buells I've ridden have all been fun bikes. Nothing race-ready against the local squid population but fun nonetheless.

Carb'd Ducati 900SS and Monster models from the mid-late 90's are solid, reliable (for the most part) bikes that are fun to ride, not intimidating, and make great sounds. They're also at the bottom of their depreciation curve. You can pick up a very nice example of either for less than $5K.
The great thing is that it's easy to find low-mileage cream puffs because most people only rode them on nice days the odd weekend. I have a 900SS/SP in the "Garage" under my avatar. Good luck and let us know how you make out. Cheers, d.
