What do you say to your team owner after you lose the race on the last turn of the last lap? "Sorry" doesn't seem enough....

I think he was trying to do the right thing, as they had him concerned over fuel, but he just went a little too high.

Maybe a moderator better put a spoiler alert warning on this topic title now!

Couldn't believe it. I felt horrible for him, though it was a major choke. Interesting that the National Guard car he was in was the one Weldon got out of last year.

My gal Simona couldn't keep it off the wall with those burns on her hands. Watch for her this season. She has the talent Danica wishes she had. Though Danica has other charms. . ..

While DP is easy on the eyes, she's a bit of a PITA.....I'd use the above before I hit it.

Some debate on the various Indycar boards about when the yellow came out, was it called too late. In other words, if the yellow came out at the time of the crash, Weldon was still behind JR so technically, JR would still hold his position and as his car actually crossed the line he was in fact the winner and not Weldon.

Sucks that Silvestro couldn't finish.

Hildebrand made the worst mistake at the worst time. I would have liked to see him slide across the finish in 1st, throttle pegged, with no front suspension.

Good thing Wheldon didn't slow down at all on that last half lap.

A bit? Way more than a bit. She whines like an Andretti. I feel sorry for the boy toy who married her.

The other drivers protested the Harroun win in 1911. He drove w/o a mechanic and was considered a hazard because he had no one to look out for other cars while racing. Haroun used a new fangled invention, called a rear view mirror.

If they pull the win...the schizzle will hit the fan. Ain't gonna happen. If I was the guy who hit the wall, I would turn down the win as it would be tainted.

True--and she was third last year. She can drive, no doubt.

I do not think he was doing the right thing. He was unlapping a car. He didn't need to go into the gray. There's a reason the words "rookie" and "mistake" are so often associated.

Snooze fest...........show of hands: who made it flag to flag without taking a nap?
Which team and driver combination put up the stellar performance that deserved the win?
It was a comedy of error where the winner was the last survivor............

Was it a record for loose wheels flying down pit row??

I don't know about loose wheels but it had to be a record for "unforced errors"!!!

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, as always. It's Indy, man. IMO, Wheldon drove a great race. So did Kanaan, and so did Danica.

I agree it was a rookie error--no need to make that pass on the outside--but a real heartbreaker. He was amazingly composed in the post-race interview.

To be fair to the kid (ouch, that hurts - getting old), I think it would be interesting to know if he had driven that line during the race and how many times, obviously without incident up to that point. I know others were struggling with it too, but maybe he had some false comfort from previous "drive-by's".

You are probably right though, no need to push... but then again, he may have thought the pack of wolves was at his back. I think overall, this was probably a bad error on the part of his spotter - they knew he was a rookie and should have helped him make the choice before he ever got there.

I too thought it was an exciting race to watch... naysayers, well...
