Take the snap caps to the range with you. Add them into your mags in various places. Bang, Bang, Bang, click, Failure drill, Bang, Bang, Bang.

You have greased the rails of your slides right?

How are you making the gun fire ready?

Are you practicing weak hand?

Can you rack the slide one handed?

svandamme 07-18-2011 11:05 AM

Yes

no , don't have the gun yet, permit first

Was plannign to field strip, clean, then oil it up

yeah, but only .22 for the moment, i'm about equally accurate left or right on a good day..
on a bad day , i'm equally ****ty left or right :D

Not yet, no pistol, but will make sure to figure that out

Jim Bremner 07-18-2011 11:12 AM

I like a light grease for the slide. Motorex makes a lube for MTB forks that's really like 150 weight oil.

For one arm racking you can hook the sights on a firm object or dig the sights into your thigh or belt and push the pistol. ( DO THIS WITH SNAP CAPS! - KEEP YOUR BUGER HOOK OFF OF THE TRIGGER)

When you rack the slide normaly most people will try to hold the grip with their strong hand and use their weak hand to pull the slide back.

Try holding the slide with your weak hand and pushing the grip forward. My wife is a small woman who has MS and she can do it this way with a 18# spring (2# over stock)

svandamme 07-18-2011 11:18 AM

i'm planning to oil it up with the oil that comes with the gun , Dan Wesson's always come with oil..

I tried to rack the slide @ the store, but as it was new, very tight and not broken in, it was tough.. Then i automatically started to push with right hand, worked like a charm.

Bit worried about buggering up my rear sights with that one handed racking technique.
It doesn't have combat sights , it's a bo-mar style..

LOL, you reminded me of a Service Pistol comp' we had at the range last month. All the usual six shots into three tagets in four seconds stuff. Then a 25m shoot for about 35 seconds, four magazines of ammo including shooting from behind a barrier weak hand only. Gawd, I got my best group with my left hand.

svandamme 07-19-2011 05:37 AM

Appointment with 50 made, they aren't coming, can't be bothered, i can go to their office next tuesday at 14h00
Questions are rather simple, about 20 of em..

Example :
Q Can i lend my gun to somebody else
A No , unless i'm at the range, to another licenced shooter, at the firing line, and i'm there

Q How should i secure my weapon at home?
A burglar proof cabinet + trigger lock

Q describe the intent of the article 416 and 417 regarding lawfull self defence
A 1 Only if unavoidable, last resort (if you can avoid violence , do so)
2 Proportional (don't shoot over verbal threats)
3 Do not continue longer then you have to

Stuff like that

Obviously i cannot answer : dude looked at me funny, so i emptied my magazine and then reloaded and took out his Chihuahua as well.

anyway, 20 questions , i think i'll manage

practical exam, cop says, we don't bother with those, if the club says yer fine, yer fine..
Which is fine by me !

Told the gun shop to expect me soon, and asked them what brands of 45 acp ball they have in stock...

svandamme 07-26-2011 05:33 AM

Allrighty, another step closer, just went to the local police station for my theoretical.. passed with flying colors.. It was the Leo in charge of the weaps department.. After the test we had a bit of a chit chat.. he was more gun ho then i was.. Ran some hypothetical scenarios by me, and he was almos pushing me to be more trigger happy in those situations..

Anyway, now the wait for them to finalize a small background check on me, then they send the papers off to Brugge..

More waiting.... And then hopefully soon the practical test.

svandamme 07-27-2011 10:37 AM

The good news is, i got a new high score with the .22 onehanded@25 yards...
166/200 x5 (3 rounds when in the white not visible in the picture)

(did some fast double taps at 10 yards after that and that was a nice little group in the lower center of the 9-8 rings)

The bad news is, cannot do my practical test when i want, it's fixed dates, first one is september 5th. So more waiting

The good news is, it turns out that one of the dudes @ the club , i was chugging beers with, is the chief examinator, cool guy, assistant coach of the military competition team.. He's was more then helpfull to explain things, i don't think there should be any problem passing on the first try.

While i'm waiting for my 1911, i got me another 1911 to go with the other one, once i get it..

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1312390759.jpg
It's very nice, build quality is great, look and feel is amazing.. And it's sharp, very sharp.

It's fully compatible with 1911's , eg , possible to simply exchange the grips..
Made in Canada...

And also fun, found me another way to do he practical exam, outside the province, but still valid, i can go on saturday 13th of august (instead of 30th sept.)

So to do list :

- Got to store, pick out gun, fondle it while trying not to drool to much, pay 30%, get serial for application http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif

- get certificate from gun club, that i'm a regular shooter http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif
this sunday when the club secretary is @ the range

- get sign off from city hall, that i don't have any criminal history http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif

already requested, should have it by monday

- medical sign off from my MD, that i'm fit and sane enough for guns http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif

tuesday, work from home, then go to the MD for his signature

- fill in the forms, send em over to Bruges http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif

- wait for the gubmint to get back to me, must be within 4 months http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif

- Pay my 92,72 euro's http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif

- The Fuzz makes a house call to check if i don't run a methlab or whatnot

- Pass theoretical test, about gun laws http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif

- Pass the practical test , supervised by the fuzz, safe handling test
(i've seen every episode of The A-team, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon and Magnum PI : piece of cake)http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif

- Drive 180 clicks, pickup The Precious, grab a brick of .45 ball, some lubicrant, and a lockable case, drive 180 clicks back home
( i did it in 1hour 15 minutes today, i had the Captital H&A in Hauling Ass fully covered)

- Strip and lube The Precious

- Go to the range and consume the marriage.

That's what needs to happen to get a gun in Belgium... And that's probably one of the easier countries in the EU, Holland is worse, France only allows certain non military calibers, UK i think is i think near impossible except for hunting , and even then.. (maybe a brit can chime in on that)

Did practical today, did pistol, rifle and smoothbore all in one go, piece of cake really.

Almost there.... Just need the fuzz to clear me, and wait for the permit..
Few more weeks left on my long wait...

jyl 08-13-2011 02:42 PM

Cool! Post pics of the gun in your meth lab, when you get it.

This is the best practice for eliminating flinch. A rangemaster at the NRA taught me this once and it was single best method for improving my accuracy. I fire every round now, as if I were expecting a click instead of a bang and it makes such a difference. I was trying to cure my wife's flinch the other night, but she was shooting a Walther P22 and I don't have any snap caps in .22. But one was a bad round and when it didn't go bang, her flinch was so obvious. She's getting better at it, but I'm going to have to use my bigger guns for which I have snap caps. That'll learn her.

My new 1911. It took me 10 minutes to get it home.

That's a nice looking specimen.

Just got word, that the permit is ready, the official has sent it over to the governer's desk to be signed.. then it goes to the local police so i can go pick it up...

The final stretch, the light at the end of the tunnel..

I'm gonna giggle all the way from the police station to the gun store when i go pick it up.

azasadny 09-06-2011 04:39 AM

Excellent!!

Rick Lee 09-06-2011 07:24 AM

I bought another Springfield in a Costco parking lot two weeks ago. Would have taken two minutes, but he had other guns in his truck to show me.

svandamme 09-06-2011 08:37 AM

i'm sure i can buy one in a parking lot in under 2 minutes too..
i'm not sure i wanna be stopped by the popo while carrying that particular purchase :D

jyl 09-06-2011 02:29 PM

Pic will be mandatory when gun is in hand . . .
