So to do list :
- Got to store, pick out gun, fondle it while trying not to drool to much, pay 30%, get serial for application http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif - get certificate from gun club, that i'm a regular shooter http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif this sunday when the club secretary is @ the range - get sign off from city hall, that i don't have any criminal history http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif already requested, should have it by monday - medical sign off from my MD, that i'm fit and sane enough for guns http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif tuesday, work from home, then go to the MD for his signature - fill in the forms, send em over to Bruges http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif - wait for the gubmint to get back to me, must be within 4 months http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif - Pay my 92,72 euro's http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif - The Fuzz makes a house call to check if i don't run a methlab or whatnot - Pass theoretical test, about gun laws http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/.../CheckMark.gif - Pass the practical test , supervised by the fuzz, safe handling test (i've seen every episode of The A-team, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon and Magnum PI : piece of cake) - Drive 180 clicks, pickup The Precious, grab a brick of .45 ball, some lubicrant, and a lockable case, drive 180 clicks back home ( i did it in 1hour 15 minutes today, i had the Captital H&A in Hauling Ass fully covered) - Strip and lube The Precious - Go to the range and consume the marriage. That's what needs to happen to get a gun in Belgium... And that's probably one of the easier countries in the EU, Holland is worse, France only allows certain non military calibers, UK i think is i think near impossible except for hunting , and even then.. (maybe a brit can chime in on that) |
Here in New Zealand...
Join pistol club. Attend at least a dozen times over six months. Pass handling tests and oral tests - easy as they want you to pass. During that 6 months they evaluate you as a suitable club member, not a wanabe gangsta. Get form from pistol club, give to police, they give you a procurement form. Yay, buy the gun. Take the gun to police who view it check SNs etc and register it. After that you need to maintain a pistol club membership and attend at least 6 times a year. Or get a collectors license and not use the gun as a shooter. Plus we have other rules like no carrying the gun around in the glove box. You have to be on your way to or from a pistol shooting range. But, anyone over 16 can pass a simple test and buy as many rifles and shotguns as you wish. Even schoolboys are allowed .50BMGs. Also there is no register of rifles and shotguns here so you can buy and sell to whoever you wish as long as they show you a gun license. |

Belgian law is al to like Cali, no flash hiders allowed either, Brakes ok.
same wih the magazines, i think 20 is verboten, 10 is ok. No biggie, they are bolt on and old M14 flash hides are just bolt-on, right?As are old M14 magazines which can be found a collectors. |

Just saw this thread (a little late) but the BHP (P35's) are available in .40 S&W - more powerful than 9mm but not the full boat of a .45
You can also buy a 9mm barrel for the .40 to allow 2 calibres for the one gun |
While the GP35/BHP has a grand history behind it, IMHO they don't shoot as nicely "out of the box" as a 1911. The magazine disconnect and the long trigger reset make for a much less satisfying shooting experience. Not to say they aren't fun. All pistols are fun, in some way or another. :D
Congrats on the paperwork, Stijn. Red tape like that is reserved for such "nasty" things as short barreled rifles and sound suppressors, where I live. |
