The a/c in the photo is a 1948 Stinson 108-3, registration C-GYYF. It is powered by a 165hp Franklin 6A4-165-B3.

There is quite a bit of information about the airplane and its owner on the Internet and we will leave it there.

I'm not a pilot (but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express recently). I'm wondering if he had the plane over the weight limit. As I understand it, that would explain the slow acceleration and lack of ability to lift.

It is not a he, it is a she (at least it is if this is still the same pilot/owner that nosed this same plane over in 1996 after leaving Oshkosh in it).

Does ditching the pilot's brain count as weight savings?

Oh goodness, so what you gentleman are saying is that not only do I get to listen to the ribbing about women drivers, now I get to hear it about women pilots?

You know, until I saw this video, I never really thought much about crashing during take off. Foolishly, I thought that take-off was sort of a given, and that it was LANDING where you were more likely to be in peril...

He needs to learn from the bush pilots in Alaska.

Now this is a short landing and takeoff.

Guessing about a 40kt headwind there...

Well, the subject Stinson is a Canadian registry...

I thought I recognized the pretty distinctive Stinson vertical stabilizer... my uncle flew an L5 in WWII in the Pacific.

I did not do any ribbing about her being a woman pilot..... I have watched a few men pilots do just as bad and even worse.

When I first started flying I had a woman instructor. She was an excellent pilot and knowledgeable instructor.

Geeezus efffing crap - are you kidding me? That is one lucky take off. Density altitude issue? Maybe - Looks to be middle of the day. Carb heat or mixture could have also been a factor too. Over gross? Maybe. It sure took a loooong time for that tail to come up. Even in HD alt situations, I think that the tail would come up quicker than that on a light aircraft. As the pilot rotates, she banks right to avoid the trees. It almost looks as if she has done that before. If so, then that is a VERY STUPID move - zero margin for error.

That was literally inches from ending very badly. The old saying goes that, "there are old pilots and bold pilots, but no old and bold pilots." That is a classic for "hold my beer and watch this." Jeez...

Yeah, he should have flung a passenger out the door at about the 18 second mark.
