Great project and a wonderful car. I came across this bit of info which you probably know about already.

Quote:
21 original colours for BMW 503 and 507 sports cars of the 1950s

Thanks to the close cooperation with BMW, the Glasurit Color Information team has managed to expand its database by 21 rare colours. The original colours for the BMW 503 and 507 models are now available via the Classic Car Colors service website. It goes without saying that for all these colours, Glasurit has also developed mixing formulas so that Glasurit bodyshops can perfectly reproduce the colours with state-of-the-art paint technology.

In the 1950s, the 503 and 507 were two of the world’s most exclusive sports cars. A mere 412 BMW 503s and 252 BMW 507s were built. With top speeds of 200 kilometers per hour, an exclusive design and a price tag of over 30,000 German marks, the models were luxury vehicles for the rich and famous, among them the King of Belgium and Elvis Presley. Their elegance remains captivating today, which is why the new Z8 has been developed to recapture the spirit of the 507.

With just a click of a mouse, BMW enthusiasts and Glasurit bodyshops anywhere in the world can now call up the mixing formulas for the historic BMW colours at www.glasurit.com and use today’s Glasurit paints to mix the original colour. By adding the 21 colours, Glasurit has taken another step towards its goal of completing the world’s largest colour library which, in addition to the colours used by the leading carmakers today, also contains the original colours of cars from yesteryear.

BTW Sterling Moss used to own one and drive it all over Europe to attend races. He is on record as saying the 507 was his favourite personal road car.

I wish I had some witty retort but alas these where all left to me from the same grandfather that left me the Gullwing I posted a few years back, Like a true idiot I sold it not understanding it's true value, I wish I had that and several others back in my possession. I do however appreciate how nice the 507's are and will not be making that mistake again.

Thank you, What's the story with the M1? I have been peering around for one of those for about a year , I am not sure the asking prices are in line with the value of the cars though. I was in Fla. looking at one and asking was 170K I thought it was a bit on the high side.

No, I imagine you won't!

Nice 507's are very rare. The demand for them is such that they almost always change hands without officially coming on the market. Because there are so few there is no real "market" price- but my guess is a nice copy would sell for north of $1 million.

Love the 507--I remember seeing one in the Imperial Palace collection in LV. Elvis also drove one while stationed in Germany during his Army days.

Yes..he has had the M1 for quite along time too, great running and sounding car. Not sure what he paid for it..prices are premium on M1s, as they should be!

BTW This months Bimmer magazine (#100 Aug) has a great article on a 507 belonging to John Surtees who acquired it new from Count Agusta in 56 for bringing several world championships to them on MV Agusta 350 and 500's.It's a removable hard top coupe. Nice!

Looks he's taking European delivery there, but the logo on the gate is from VW.

I don't think I've even seen one before, so I looked it up.

It's a looker.

That man has skills

507 is one of very few cars that would make the swap for a kidney sound reasonable.

Thanks for sharing the pics Mark, what color will it be?

It's original color was very close to a slate/blue, my intentions are to match this color. I am trying to be careful not to go overboard with this project so all the chrome will be re-installed in its current condition as well as the seats, trim etc. I only had the body done to correct some poor choices (Bondo) in the past.

Who are we to judge?

I'm just happy to watch you do the right things.

And, my god, what a car, Sir.
