But, Porsche/'stang?

Really?

Many years ago I drove my "stang up to Monterey for the historics. My sons and I spent the night at a pretty cool hotel. There was a Porsche group and vintage Ferrari group there. Early in the next morning when everyone walked out to clean their cars prior to driving to the track plenty of guys where doing the look around at others cars the Mustang was sneared at by Porsche clan.

The Ferrari group of about 12 guys where waiting to talk to me. A couple of guys where down on the hands looking under the car.

I will say that I was treated well by the group that ran the TRE Hangover ralley on Jan 1 2006. I got hooked onto the forum due to it.

Drove a Saleen s281 (2010) recently, nice mountain drive. It isn't that Mustangs are bad cars, they look OK (well the newest iteration does look a little 'acura' in the back) they handle OK, they can be fast as snot - it is just that they are soooo different than any porsche.

I find them a little 'soulless' - even the Saleen I drove.

Yep, gotta have soul to be a Porsche guy.

Seriously...I'd been there-done that with P cars....yet sooo much hatred for me because I sold an iconic 2.4 911S to a dear friend in Turkey and later bought a Mustang Bullitt.

The Bullitt is far from being a "perfect" car...but it's a fine driver. Like I said, I will NEVER return to Porsche. 40 years was enough.

pwd72s - I wasn't 'hating' on them, or you, sorry...

It just seems like an odd choice. Do many 'stang guys end up in Porsches?

And it isn't that the people who own them are soulless - it is just that the car seems a bit 'vanilla'. As I said, even the Saleen, which has like 460 lbs of torque and a gear ratio that sets it off screaming, lots of suspension tweeks, a re-tuned interior and lots of changes to the exterior, ended up being sort of 'just a car'.

I found this site while doing research for the purchase soon of the first Porsche I will have owned.

I've been quietly lusting after one since 1973 and it's now finally time. I'm trying to learn and discover what I can afford and what I can love.

Very informative site, thanks.

I too, moved to the dark side and now drive this:

motor

Photobucket
Roush blower? I've been tempted, but still prefer normally aspirated. Still, would be a way to keep up with the new 5.o's..

"Vanilla" suits me just fine...I'd had it up to my eyeballs with some of the people my old 911S attracted...this a long and old story I really don't want to get into here. The old 911S became worse than "just a car" to me...

In many ways, I miss driving the old 911S. In more ways, I don't!

I spent about 9 months on Porscheless list, but I got back in the saddle about 3 months ago. That brief period of withdrawal was brutal.

I had a Saleen (93-0018) and it was a blast to own and drive. You had to have a lot of respect for the car, it would bite you. Having the supercharger come on boost at 70mph and lighting up the rear tires will get your attention real fast.

On the other hand I love my 911.

Wish I had the engine back in it so I could drive it.
