Fishcop, I agree with you. I've given up trying to decide how I would trade up to a 993. Now it's about how will I afford several Porsches, and where the hell will I put them?

I can't afford what I drive so I do

Well during the winter my 4x4 is the way to go, during the summer I can take the top and doors off and enjoy the sunshine, right now it's my only wheels while I restore my 911E Coupe I hopefully be done this summer, probably in time to store it for winter, hopefully I'll be able to find a running motor which I don't have to rebuild up here in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. My mechanic says he has one for me once I got the cash.

I drive a 911 2.7 Coupe -74 and a BMW 316 -00. Of course I would rather drive a BMW 330, but my boss do not approve this kind of companycar, so I´ve to settle with the 316, as it is a BMW.

Among the many things that some people will never learn is this: wanting is usually better than having. Being a working guy with toys, like most on this board, but still having dream cars that are out of reach, is better than being filthy rich and having everything. I know, and have known, people with millions a year to spend in interest alone who are miserable columns of human waste. They could buy Seinfeld's Porsche collection with their lunch money, but, alas, are busy OD'ing on heroin instead.

What's the point, big painter? We are enthusiasts who keep score with our DIY skill and taste in cars, not by how much car payment the bank will let us have. People with REAL money do not talk about their cars, period, and yes this thread is offensive and just really asinine. You are not "livening things up"; there is a standard of wit, civility and brotherhood around here that you would do well to aspire to instead of a shiny new car. MY .02.

IF I offended anybody. I apolagize. I really mean that. My intent is not to insult anybody. Nostatic is looking for a new car which inspired me to think, I know what I would get if in that position so I just wanted to ask, what would you, would you spend more than you could afford to get it or just drive what you could pay for. I think a few of you guys are to willing to jump all over people, given the oppurtunity. I might be a west vs. east thing, I dont know and I dont care. Again I am sorry. I like this place, and dont want to spoil it. From here on in I will only post when necessary so as not to offend anybody.

I may be speaking out of place as a newbie, but I don't see the problem with the thread. There are cars that I would like to drive, and others that I could afford, but I think that for my stage in life, my car is about perfect.

Who on this list hasn't thought of the "great 'what if'?" at some point? I know that as a kid, I used to spend hours dreaming of different cars. It seems like an honest question to pose to us as a group. I can understand thinking that the users are better served by more technical posts, but I don't think there's anyone on this board that can honestly say they're bitter at having to drive their current ride. Anyone here could have gone out and bought a used escort or volkswagen, and probably saved some money. Come on, we're here because:

A. We have Porsches. Not bad!

B. We love cars. Also not bad.

Porsches have inspired fantasies and daydreams since they were first made. I still wonder about what car I'll get when I "grow up." More and more, I think I'll probably keep mine for a very long time. That being said, I still think about different cars, and if wanting that next C4S or 73 RS makes you work harder to get it, then by all means it's a great thing to have that desire.

I hope I don't offend anyone. It just seemed a little extreme to go off on BigB for posing a question that has most likely crossed everyone's mind at least once.

That's my .02. Or at this point, my $14.99. Here's hoping everyone loves their car and ends up in the ride of their dreams at some point along the way.

Question

I'm still trying to figure out why, if somebody doesn't like a thread on an internet BB, they would bother posting an answer? Isn't that a lot like stopping at the scene of an accident to piss and moan about the people who've stopped to look at the accident?

I am pretty new here, but I agree with Lee, if you don't like the thead - move on.

Now, to answer the question...

I don't fall in love with cars, but I find ways to afford the one I really like. ( And still working on getting that Ducati too)

I drive a lowly 944 which I absolutely love. However, I badly want a new M3 or a 993.

Nazi patrol? Vat do you mean by dis?

As long as it's not off-color or offensive, or degrading to someone..etc, it's ok. But if you have a problem with anybody's post, please email me: we've had to deal with some posts in the past: it's no problem. Sometimes I don't have time to read over all the posts....

Note: for a refresher, here's the post about the guidelines for the OT forum:

Oh yeah, to keep it on topic: in my opinion, it's not just what you drive, but how and where you drive! I love driving my 944S2 at Lime Rock Park, or tearing it up at an autocross. While I do enjoy driving it to work (there's a couple of nice entry/exit ramps!), for the most part, my commute is boring highway travel, so it doesn't really matter if I'm in my Porsche or my Subaru.

Just my $0.42.
