I would never cut the top off of that car. Buy a Mondial and be done with it, or buy a 400i with a sunroof.

-The great thing about that car is that the Ferarri V12 bell-housing bolt pattern is the same as a small-block chevy. That means that you can pull the V12 and mount some old 350 if you have trouble, rebuilding the V12 the right way [yourself, taking your time-] while still enjoying the car.

These cars had trouble with the electrical systems. What do you want? A nice car to tool around in, or do you want a perfect example? If the former is true, then buy the thing and post some pictures. If the later is true, then you must be a masochist or something, because you are going to spend endless hours in the garage working on wiring issues. You'll never get everything to work- no matter how hard you try. So the best advice is...if you want to DRIVE a V12 Ferarri then do it. If you want everything to work, then it might be cheaper to just slit your wrists; you are going to wind up killing yourself in the end!

Good luck. Post the pics when you buy it! I like them too-

I like them A LOT too, and agree about the purposeful, crisp design. Very sharp, without screaming LOOK AT ME I'M IN A FERRARI.

I am *really* drawn to the 5 speeds

I could see getting in trouble someday, if ever a mechanically well-sorted "driver" quality one popped up for 25kish. The idea of a v12 Ferrari for that kinda money would be painfully tempting. Scary if the engine went though, yikes.

This is worth watching too:

The 400i is a cool car. I like the "bigger" Ferraris. But the 330 GT Series II is my dream "boat."

Why? I can think of no rational reason to do this other than one has so much M****** cash sitting around that it has become a bother.

There is nothing about owning a Ferrari that is very rational, same goes for anything custom. I think a Spyder version of the 400i would be a nice car.
