angela - what cam and what size carbs?
|
The carbs are PMO 40's. The engine builder said the 40's would work - might be the best choice for the street though I could probably get mroe power out of the bigger PMO's. Can't remember what the cams were. I let the engine builder pick them out. Told him I wanted the car to be tractable for street driving (which isn't too hard given how light the car is) and to get busy somewhere around 4-4,500. It pulls so hard from there to redline that if you do half a dozen rips during the day, the next morning your neck feels like it has whiplash. Oh it's worth it though... so worth it! :D
For more engine porn. This is my Dad's car. I got rid of the stinkbug 305 that was in it - this is a nice 330 horse 350. I built the a/c lines myself. Reused the factory hardline, but built the rest of the lines out of a stainless barrier hose. Then polished the hardline and dryer by hand. angela http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1314390225.jpg |
Angela, what type of vehicle is that? It looks just like the engine compartment of my 86 El Camino. Mine has no pink however :)
|
You're spot on. That car is an 87 Monte Carlo Aerocoupe (Dad's car). Kind of a long story on that one -
Love, Lies and Larceny... - MonteCarloSS.com Message Board The gist of it is that we pretended to sell it for my Dad (even gave him money for it) then spent two years building a resto-rod for him. He got it back for Father's Day a couple of years ago. angela |

The art is in the craftsmanship and although aesthetics rarely adds performance, it is the first indication of "pride in workmanship". Quality in aesthetics shows the application of professional judgment, quality control, and responsibility to provide the best possible performance / outcome. If it looks sloppy it generally shows a lack of mechanical understanding or even a general laziness. |

This.
If only more adults understood it and instilled this value in children, the world would be a better place. Quote:

Making it look good has nothing to do with making it run good. I've seen lots of pretty machines broke down on the side of the road. I've seen lots of machines that had no time or money squandered to make them "look good", but they ran great. I've spent my life rebuilding million dollar machines, or supervising others doing the same. Here's the deal: most customers have no idea what good mechanics are all about, so you shine it up and they think it's good out of ignorance. It's called a one gallon overhaul. We've done incredible work on a machine, and the customer isn't that impressed. We can do the same work but spiff it all up, and they say WOW, good job. |

As for "squandering money" if you can't afford to clean a project, perhaps that project should sit until you have time to clean it. |
Sammy - I agree with you on so many things, but I'd let this one go.
Isn't there some expression among engineers about good designs being easy on the eye? |
Henry, I agree with your clean orderly approach, especially for a 911 engine. Remember Sammy will argue with anyone about anything.
A mega million dollar generator that almost no one sees does not need to be pretty. A fresh rebuilt 911 engine should. |
And I suppose, by extension, beautiful rebuilds...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1315603714.jpg But then again I am a bit biased :) |
