Yes -- there's a pic in the random pics thread regarding Facebook, with the following quote:
"If you aren't paying for a service, then you aren't the customer -- you're the product."

Facebook users: the product

Facebook customers: people who are behind the ads as well as the demographic informaiton FB offers to companies.

They will have to start paying people to stay at FB.

Could not be more wrong.

Facebook is not on the decline at all. Certain user types started dropping out about a year ago. But the number of users in the last year has increased by approximately 300 million.

Business owners have been late to the party, but are joining in droves. It's mostly a waste of time, but all the "social media experts" have been pushing it like crazy.

Why anyone would give something like Facebook their real name, real date of birth, post pictures of themselves and their families, disclose so much other information . . . having no idea what it is being used for, sold for, etc. or, how that info will be kept/used in the future (no one knows that) is beyond me.

Is it just a cynical view that there is no privacy anymore? Or that companies are benevolent and watching out for you?

Here's just one of the latest "privacy breaches." Yeah, like this was "inadvertent."
