Any other Shelby owners here?
This place is my social networking spot. I deleted my Facebook account because most of the posts were simple and in fact tedious. Here I find quality and intelligence.
I also find that a lot of people on this section of the board no longer drive Porsches. I have owned 4 over the years. The last was an 87 Targa I sold when the real estate market turned sour. I recently bought an '08 Shelby GT500. After a test drive I was simply smitten with the freakin' power! 500 horses is just too much! And for $35K with 5K miles I could not resist. Anyone else here do something similar? I am amazed at the quality Ford is putting out recently. More pics at: http://www.dennisarner.com/2008shelby/

Nice car and everything, but I'm more interested in learning where you've found "quality and intelligence" in off-topic...

Much better than Facebook Mon! And hey Bullitt guy, a friend has one. We went to Flat Rock to AAI to see them get built. 550 miles from Reading , PA. I could not believe how comfortable the ride was and I was fascinated seeing them build these cars. As good as anything out there. Let's face it PORSCHE is not what it used to be. I had 3 air cooled 911's and 1 water cooled Boxster. Which one gave me engine problems? PORSCHE cannot build a reliable water cooled engine. My buddy that has the Bullitt had 2 engines blow up in 2 separate Boxsters. Need I say more? 500 HP is intoxicating. And it is dealer warranted until March of 2016 nose to tail.

Your buddy also Dennis? I think we both post on the IMBOC board...
![]() My reasons for dumping the old 911S are varied, but I'm pretty satisfied with my Bullitt...it's a better than most cars driver, while not being the sought after collectable car my '72 911S was. So, a good car for me at this stage of life. Though of course, NO Mustang can be a better car than a well set up 944 (Green font used for sarcasm here)

Your buddy also Dennis? - YUP - we both belong to IMBOC and went to Flat Rock together in early August. Were you there?
I almost bought a Bullitt until I decided my toys need to have tops that come off. When I drove this GT500 I was hooked.

I sold my (deceased) brother's '07 GT500. It was an awesome machine, but not something I'd like for a DD.
I did get, as a rental, an '11 V6 Convertible, and I must say I was very impressed - especially when you consider the smile/price ratio!

Just put a nice little blower on that 5.0, and go play with the Shelbys, Reg...
![]() I briefly considered that Shelby, but I really was looking for just a non blown, nicely balanced driver. Had pretty much settled on the Bullitt by that time... Oh, it rains a bit here in western Oregon. No sunroofs or ragtops for this country boy...

Guess I'm a purist...to me, the only "real" Cobras have an AC body and Ford power...
However, "a rose by any other name". Nobody doubts the power of today's Cobra Mustangs. Not even those with well set up 944's.

Excellent photography and writing...good reference work for anybody having an interest..Contact FDB here, and he might arrange an autographed copy.

My friend and I restored a 1968 GT500KR convertible (one of 318 made) way back in the late 70's-early 80's. Does that count?
