The humidity from being in Missouri is a large part of what made me move out West to Arizona. Love the green but could not take the humidity!

To tell you the truth, I don't really remember the mosquitos, but I had been living with my parents back then whose house was back against a woods in NW Ohio..... IOW I was used to a bunch of mosquitos back then. I can also still vividly remember the gas chamber shack in full mop gear on a hot humid summer day. God did that day ever suck. After marching to breakfast..... "Alternate"... "take a chip"... "file from the left column left"... "forward"... "march" Chocolate milk in my cereal, bacon, grits with butter/salt/pepper. mmm almost sounds good again. I can remember being allowed to go to church on some Sundays little did the drill seargents know that I was not really very religious.... instead of attending church, we would sneak off to use the payphones.

Congratulations to your son not only for maxing the PT test and graduating BT, to be recognized as the soldier of the cycle....an outstanding accomplishment! Glad to hear he's going into the Signal Corp. Fort Gordon is a hell of a lot better than Fort Benning.....I spent a little time at both. Does he have an idea of where he'll be stationed after finishing AIT?

Congrats and thank him for serving. One constant in every base I'm on is the coffee pot.
Basic at 37 would be tough but doable. I think I could have done it up until about age 43 or so, then it was a quick downhill slide to where I am now ![]() |

Grats to your kid for finishing basic. And grats to his pals.

I'll have to get more details on Van Dyne, can remember my kid saying he had been a restaurant manager, and that he had his "s%#t straight", as opposed to some in his company who did not.
My son signed up for the Army Reserves, his base unit is in Little Rock but he thinks he can transfer to another unit close to whatever pharmacy school he attends (we'll see how well that plan works out with the army). Jim
