Big Momma's grumpy because she recently found out how much it's gonna cost her to replace the batteries in that thing.

I'de move the truck so the tailpipe is 2 feet from her open windows, and then i'de run the refrange on the truck, in gear, with the break stomped so the engine isn't just idling.
I'de be happy to burn a frigging clutch just so i can dump the sooth in the interior of her car and her face.. It would be worth it.

I have a few questions, and a few observations, but I'll start off with what I've come to think of as the existing situation based on the video.

1. The Diesel truck was sitting in the parking lot first, and the Prius lady pulled up.

2. By the time the video is running, the driver's car door is open.

3. Prius lady has a weapon in her hand, I say weapon because I was attacked in 5th grade with one, she went for my ears and eyes, the only time I hit a girl.

4. The truck people's kid has allergies, video states this is why the kid is in the truck, and the truck has windows rolled up. However we see the doors open and the kid in the back of the truck bed. Therefore any assumption we may have had about the A/C on so that the child could sleep is put into doubt. Was the A/C on, or just maybe the fresh air fan going though the cabin filter?

Either the assumption is true and the video was shot after doors were opened and kid put in the bed of the truck. Does anyone have a good guess?

Or the captions in the video are lies, and the truck was just idling in the parking lot for no good reason as the Prius/pen lady seems to think. I'm leaning towards this view, just nothing to make me think otherwise.

5. Are kids with allergies sensitive to Diesel fumes as well? If so, then the parents may consider this exposure in the future, if not I guess it's their fuel to burn.

.................................................. ...........................................

I had a brush with carbon dioxide poisoning a few years back, my old Geo Tracker had an exhaust leak up at the manifold (gasoline not Diesel). I still feel sick when near a Diesel truck's fumes, I either have to leave a lot of room between my truck and theirs or pass them a quickly as possible. This happened just yesterday, rolled down the windows when it was clear to do so.

I think this new low sulfur fuel messes up more engines and causes more pollution in the long run.

.................................................

I'm not taking the Prius/pen ladies side, but I am saying a Diesel truck left running for no good reason (as I see in the video) is something which makes me ill. It really does make me ill, not an expression or political statement.

re #5 - yes, the particulate emissions from diesel engines are very allergenic, not to mention carcinogenic; the fuel has been cleaned up recently, but few engines exist right now to take max. adv. of the cleaner fuel and really cut the particulate emissions

re: batteries, that is silly as they are warranted for a loooong time

obviously, the woman went off her rocker (tho maybe something happened before he got out the video camera? - else, why would he start using the camera?)

porsche4life 11-09-2011 11:48 AM

Most of the new diesel trucks, say post '06 have particulate filters, if you leave the truck idle, it will burn off the crap in the filters. It is best for these motors to leave them idle instead of starting/stopping them....

And an idling diesel truck doesn't burn that much fuel....

I've been thinking about the pen, bet she wrote down the trucks licence plate number. And the cell phone came out when she approached.

If leaving your child in the back of a running truck is anything like having the keys in the ignition while intoxicated, I bet a few laws were broken.

From what I can tell, lock them all up and let a judge sort it out. They were fools to post this.

She's just upset that the truck has fewer emissions than she does.

idling won't provide enough heat for the particle filter to burn off.
Besides it does that in cycles anyway.. It stores particles till it gets hot enough, then does a burnoff cycle..

My BMW has one , and a start/stop function for red lights.
I would imagine BMW would not put in the start/stop function if it would cause the burnoff cycle to work less well..

The particle filter does cause problems for people that only drive short distances and the engine never get's hot enough...That kind of use will clog the particle filter over time.

I KNEW we'd get into a technical discussion eventually - my faith is restored!

So if the truck driver was letting his truck idle in the parking lot for no good reason, that would justify some crazy Prius driver yelling at him? Some of you guys really amaze me......

Nah....that wouldn't work...the children would never hear those expressive 4 letter words!

Those YT comments were awesome...here's my favourite:

You should have just revved your truck to give her a nice mouthful of exhaust and been like "What? I can't hear you over the awesome sound of my diesel engine."

Looks like one of the Prius models that has an infamous inverter pump failure. Just wait, a diesel will tow it eventually. I bet she'll love that.
