Subaru BRZ
200hp, boxer engine, RWD. Weight and cost TBD but production in 2012
http://www.globalmotors.net/wp-conte...pt-600x399.jpg |
I read 200hp but I still want to drive one.
|
Yeah, I think one of the sources I read was dreaming of an STi version. If the weight is low 200hp would be just fine. I know that my GTI w/200hp was plenty fast and was a hoot on the track even with FWD.
|
|
Sounds intriguing but I wonder how it will compare to the traditional 4wd models that have come to be so appreciated partly because of the all wheel drive that makes them so easy to drive fast on a rally course.
|
Hasn't Scion announced something very similar?
|
According to my friend who has been waiting for one forever there are three versions. The subie and scion versions but there's also the toyota version aka the ft86 which will be the trd version and the fastest.
|
Oh and Boeing called... they want their wing back

at least it isn't from Airbus...

Nice concept. Needs more power. This is fine for entry level for but those among us who thing that a wretched excess of tire smoking, power-sliding, ridiculous g-force on acceleration is just right - this little cutie falls short.
That direct injection 2.0 engine is capable of much, much more. GIVE ME WHAT I WANT!! GIVE US ALL WHAT WE WANT!!!! POWER! angela |
Wow... 2500 lbs... that's uncommon these days. Could be fun.
|
I've been very interested in these... this is what i've found.
Three versions: -Toyota FT-86, japan only -Scion FR-S for US market (these two are identical save the badge) -Subie BRZ for all markets The 'yota versions have a 197hp 4cyl. No power numbers on the Subie, but rumors of a near 300hp STi version. I expect ~225-250hp from a boosted four in the base. The weight of ~2600 seems to be correct. No word on pricing. And yes, the wing is a bit much. |
2600 lbs and lower cg than my Cayman S. Color me very interested...

Am I insane for thinking of trading my Cayman S for one? I wonder if the Subie has an intermediate shaft bearing to worry about? :p |
I'm not totally sold on the styling, but this should be a fun car to drive.

Hold off for the TRD supercharged version.....I'm sure there will be one coming.
|
Saw both the Subaru and the Scion at the LA show. The one that impressed me was the Ford Focus ST, 246hp 2.0 turbo. Coming in late 2012 worldwide...
2013 Ford Focus ST | Focus ST. Experience the Thrill. | Ford.com This sounded interesting (no pun intended).. The muscular high-performance exhaust system peeks out through a central dual-pipe design at the rear of the vehicle. It’s tuned to deliver a confident growl under power. And to help make sure you hear that rumble of excitement coming from under the hood, the Focus ST is equipped with a sound symposer box. It’s designed to enrich the natural sounds of the vehicle by capturing internal engine oscillations and piping them through the interior. |
The styling has grown on me I really like the back. It's great without the wing reminds me of a tvr.
If willtell is right about the weight at 2822 pounds that is a little disappointing with 200 hp. Congrats to them they've made a 944S 20 years late |
I found another article that says 2775 lbs. I guess we'll have to wait and see the final numbers.

I'm interested. I will at least take one on a test drive.

That is a surprisingly good looking little car. Hopefully it will not have the "high waist" look of all of the new cars, where you can't see out of the rear windows. The low and deep engine should keep the entire waistline lower on the car.

The Focus ST also has electronic stability control with three modes: standard, reduced or wide-slip mode, and off. The car is also equipped with Enhanced Torque Vectoring Control, which is independent of the Torque Steering Control system. This system applies the brakes to the inner wheel in cornering to reduce understeer in both power-on and power-off conditions. Overall the suspension has been tuned using upgraded shock and spring settings, which help lower the ST’s ride height for a lower center of gravity and a more aggressive look The rear suspension has been revamped with new suspension knuckles, and there’s also a new anti-roll bar design." The Subi/ Scion was nice, just disappointed that they weren't going to offer a turbo version. I think Ford is really going to gain on the WRX/ Evo/ A3/ Speed 3 crowd. |
The a3/speed3 are in a totally different class than the EVO and wrx....

I heard Toyota and Subie were working together to bring back a "Celica" for Toyota and a 2 door for Subie based on the same car.
Looks like it came out a little different than expected, originally I'd heard the Toyota would be FWD, and the Subie 4wd. I guess I didn't keep up with it enough past initial info a few years ago. I was looking fowards to see what they did, so far, doesn't look too shabby. |

The WRX and the Speed3 are basically a draw. |
So none of these new sciontoyotasuba-fords come with AWD...

It appears that they're all RWD. |

A used boxster S/Cayman S will spank this car in every direction. Let alone a 20 year old 968.
The styling is god awful. Take away the badge and I don't even know who the F makes it. Mismatched lines feel like they were pulled from all sorts of 'whats hot' these days but nothing jives. 200HP in 2700lbs (it will be 2800+ fully loaded) isn't worthwhile these days- a late 944 turbo has better power-to-weight. Give me a new Solstice GXP instead. |

You can't buy a new Solstice. Production ended in 2009.

I'm very interested in one. Small, rwd, decent power, hopefully Toyota reliability... perfect for hauling tofu through the hills.
btw, it's more than an improvement on the original. http://www.driftsession.com/drifting...la/AE86_01.jpg |
