Plumbers and/or folks who know faucets

Our kitchen sink faucet, a separate control handle and faucet, has developed a leak. When in use the faucet has water coming up and out the top that pools at the base. When not in use there is no leak. I took cap off exposing an allen nut adjuster. Tightening it makes no difference to leak and just locks down the swivel movement of the faucet. Is there another adjustment on this to stop the leak?

Thanks folks.

Turn the water off under the sink and remove that allen screw. There is probably a cartridge under there.
Once you remove it you SHOULD be able to see a washer or at least get access to it from there.

Take it to the local HD store and get a replacement. If you know the make and model of your faucet that will help.

Since the control handle is separate, there will be no 'cartridge' in the part you show. Most likely just two O-rings ( top and bottom ).

Remove that brass nut and it should pull straight up and off.

As suggested, if you can find a name/brand, the plumbing supply house will
thank you.

The O-ring(s) need replacing.

Something that may be a temporary fix: Take apart, lube with silicone (dielectric) grease, and reassemble. This seemed to work for an outdoor faucet, but perhaps the gasket reseated.

What brand is it?

I have some Kohler faucets which are guaranteed for life (I think kOHLER FAUCETS all are). They just send you the parts if you tell them what you need.

I'm going to disassemble the faucet this weekend. I am familiar with replacing rubber o-rings - did that twice already on our master bath shower valve (Delta brand). Also replaced the cartridge on the Delta free - they warranty the stuff for life as well. We have tons of crap in our water...wish I sprung for a soft water system when we first bought the home. All of our faucets are gummed up with deposits.

Honestly I don't remember what brand the sink faucet is. I purchased it at HD Expo years ago when we upgraded the countertops and sink. Hopefully it will have some identifiers on the parts once I get into it.

Thanks again!

Hard to get parts if you don't know who made it.

Update

So on Sunday I unscrewed the allen topped adjuster which is attached to a brass tube that has the two rubber o-rings. The tube was connected to a diverter under the sink that has these funky press connectors. After a bit of struggle (you push the pipe in then press the plastic connector to release) I got it out. Visit to HD resulted in no suitable o-ring replacements.

Here's the assembly with twisted off allen adjuster

Needing the sink later that night I reinstalled the assembly and ended up twisting the allen adjuster off the pipe...DOH!. It was really corroded where the water passage holes were and just gave up when I applied a bit too much force. Now I'm screwed!

Here's the broken assembly detail

Frustrated I hit the internet and I discover (by luck) that the faucet is a Price Pfister Marielle. On the horn with the company and they next day deliver the replacement part plus some additional o-rings and a new diverter (just in case). Total cost was $12 for the next day delivery. All put together again and works like a champ - just in time for our Halloween night party!

Thanks again for all the advice.

The parts were covered right? The $12 was for overnite? If they were UPS would have been free?

Yes parts were free. Shipping is not free so I paid an extra $5 over basic shipping to ensure I would have the parts before this Saturday.
