Packing heat..........
What is your preferred way to go armed? Side holster, inside the waistband, small of the back, in a pocket, crossdraw or ? It is easier to conceal a weapon in the winter when coats and sweaters are being worn but then there is the problem of getting layers of clothes out of the way before drawing the weapon. Also to consider is the persons physique, etc. For example, I am about 6'-1" tall and weigh about 210 lbs. Being tall and slender seems to make it somewhat more difficult to keep things concealed. For the moment, my dedicated carry piece is a Colt hammerless in .380acp loaded with Hornady personal protection ammo. Yes, I know that a heavier caliber would be a better "one shot stopper", but the Colt is very thin, is still large enough to handle/aim well but not too heavy to weigh on the belt. I wear an inside the waistband holster in a crossdraw fashion which keeps the muzzle out of the way when sitting, keeps the weapon concealed against the body and makes for easy access wearing a coat. So, the question is what if your preferred method of carry?

IWB, weak side (I cross draw) for my Sig P239 or a pocket carry for the Ruger LCP in a DeSantis holster. I can really only carry the Sig in the colder months when I wear heavier clothing. The Ruger is so concealable I can carry it anywhere!

Shoulder holster, cross draw of course left to right. Good for everything I carry Colt 03, 08 (.380), or 1911, I can reach it sitting down in the car, no printing even under a light jacket. Summer is a different story.

When I carry, it is usually a snub nose in a strong side pocket of the pants or jacket. If I'm wearing a belt and no jacket, then an IWB on the strong side.
Basically, I figure - The gun needs to be as close as possible to the outermost layer of clothing. - If your gun fits in a pocket, why not carry it in a pocket. With suitable trigger protection, and nothing else in the pocket. |

Second choice.........
In hot weather, I carry a KelTec .32 in a pocket holster. It will go into a pair of bluejeans pocket without printing. Again, I am giving up firepower for concealment but better to have something than nothing. The current batch of mouse gun defensive ammo makes the situation better. Good info, keep it coming!

Crossdraw for OWB Officers, strong side pocket for the snub revolver.
Practice, practice, practice with any method(s) of carry.

Just what % of you folks pack? I myself do not know anyone who carries aside from law enforcement. There seems to be an awful lot of threads about guns lately - even more than Mustangs!

Only heat I pack is a 155lb English Mastiff on the end of a leash. As sweet and friendly as a side-arm can be, but instinctively knows to scare the schit out of anyone even thinking impure thoughts.

The few times I've felt the need to carry, it has either been a rifle in my hands, a small 22 behind my wallet, or my 1911 "messican" style...

I always carry and it's usually an HK USP Compact in a Bianchi holster in the small of my back. Recently I've lost some weight and so my pants are getting too loose to do that without a belt anymore. I was having a hard time keeping it looking right in a furniture store with a gun busters sign yesterday. While on the bike I keep it in my tank bag, but once off I clip it at the 5:30 or 6:00 mark on my waist (IWB).

Oh and left side, holster positioned just above elbow height, draw across. Sort of fits into the waist area and even a blazer conceals the Sig nicely. angela

Makarov 9mm IWB strong side or cross draw when seated in the car. Conceals easily with a T or golf shirt un tucked.

I'd probably get a good chuckle out of everyone if I showed what I've been carrying for the last 25 years at the pawnshop. But I am in a fairly secure small town and I do have other handgun options nearby. I firmly subscribe to the idea that it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Everyday I carry a Ruger lcp 380 in my back left pocket barrel pointing up and inside so when you pull it with one finger in the trigger guard it rolls into shooting position. I say it beats a holster, and if you have to pull it nobody will see it till it is out. Yes it can be done this way in either pocket.
