My folks have had three Bassetts and the one now is named Abner. They are such awesome dogs, but they stink even after you give them a bath. I love them.

They are sweet dogs. One of my buddies just lost his @ 18 years of age. Might be a record.

Bingo. We are now on our 3rd and hopefully last Bassett. We've had just about every type of dog but nothing stinks like a Bassett. Doesn't matter what you feed them, they have really gross body odor. Winning personalities, every single one of 'em. But the stench...

I live next to a greenbelt. If she had found a way thru the fences into it she would be toast.

Too small to take on the Yotes that live there and not even a match for the local Bobcat population.

I really had no choice in the matter, you gotta do what's right.
Needs to be more good folks like you!!! I've rescued quite a few in my day but I've had to quit. Can't carry one to the Vet anymore and get it fixed up for $25. The 3 I have now cost me enough.

We took care of my uncle's German Shepherd Bash for a couple of years. He used to cruise down to the local Safeway with a young Bassett female Louise fairly often. The butcher there would give them bones to chew on. Then they'd call us to say Bash and Louise are down at Safeway (2 miles away) and could you come pick them up? Louise was a sweetie, too. Bash was flat-out awesome.

If owners are aware and keep this part of the Bassett's anatomy clean....they don't stink.

I had one for years.....great animals.

My vet will let you keep them as contact indefinitely....IF YOU decide to register it afterwards its your responsibility.

I recently moved and just updated my dog's info using his microchip ID on their website Pet Microchip for Dogs and Cats | HomeAgain Pet ID & Recovery Service

When I dropped the dog off I made a point of explaining to the owner how much simpler this ordeal would have been for both of us if the dog had tags and if the chip were registered.

He replied that they had been at the vet within the last month and specifically had the chip scanned and it was reading fine.

I explained to him that the chip was not the problem, it did read fine, the problem is there was no owner information on record for the chip so it was pretty much useless.

I get the feeling he thought simply having the dog chipped was all that he needed to do.
