Bought a sensible used car

That Holiday Inn is pretty far West should be quiet. Across from the BMW dealership.
A bit of a walk to the subway line but looks convenient. It will be a good place to leave from, just head west to the West Side Highway. If you want to enjoy the 964 I suggest driving up the Taconic Highway all the way to Massachusetts, then you can cut across to I-95/I-91. Stop in Cold Springs, NY for Lunch.
Enjoy NYC, by just walking around different neighborhoods.

Since the car has rain gutters, shouldn't a generic roof rack work just fine?
Pick one up PQ along with your new(ish) winter rims and tires and you should be good to go.

Keeping my fingers crossed for great weather for your trip.

Yes, I suppose a generic one would work! I'm so used to the newer ones that I didn't even think of the rain gutters

And as for weather, I'm hoping for clear skies till I get to NYC, but after that I wanna PLAY IN THE SNOW!!

It was a pleasure selling you the car. I wish I didn't have to work and I would show you around town. Enjoy the car and I hope you can make it down the Hershey swap meet. If you thought that Mike had a lot of cars over in his shop, think of parking lots full of all types of Porsches, 356, 911, 964, 930..... everything. Parts and just a good group of people.

Jake, I used a Thule rack on my old 73E, and I'm sure it'll work on my 964.

If you're really going to drive it in the winter get underneath and spray all the hardware-bolts,brackets ,lines etc with a waxy oil, wash the underneath in the spring and reapply frequently
In my shop we work on quite a few of these and after exposure to salt they get very tough to work on. The body will never rust but the hardware sure will

Still in Montreal, we got a bit waylaid...



The mechanic who did the PPI said I should expect to do a clutch "within a year or so"... Which was accurate, if a tad imprecise. Made it about 200 miles before I noticed it slipping in 3rd. The PPI mechanic said it was stiff but said he didn't feel it slipping, and it hadn't slipped for the PO. My guess is that it was JUST ON THE VERGE, and with the weight of my dad + luggage, it started to slip. Even once I got it to Montreal and was driving it alone, I couldn't get it to slip while driving... Although the Montreal mechanic was able to let the clutch out in 5th while parked. And it didn't stall, so it was toast. I decided to deal with it in Montreal, where I had 2-3 good shops to chose from, and had Campbell's do it... They were great. Anyway, it is what it is, and I got a great car, and now I got my first nasty bill out of the way so I am fully immersed in the Porsche ownership experience now!

I'll post more pics tomorrow night when I'm home, we had an AMAZING trip.

I still can't believe that the clutch started slipping. I never weighted the car down. It was pretty much me in the car. I live in the mountains upstate NY and it pulled great. I have got to talk to Tommy over at advanced. I saw that he took it for a nice long 20 +mile road test from looking at the milage in and out.

Anyway. Enjoy the car. Tell your dad it was a pleasure to meet him and I hope you can make it down to the Hershey swap meet. Even if you want to fly down and I'll take you and pay for your hotel. That is the least I can do.

Well, I got a first-hand look at the New Brunswick roads Saturday. Joy & I drove up to Fredericton Junction to pick up a rescue dog. 6 hour one-way trip. Yeah, there's nothing wrong with my head a baseball bat wouldn't fix.

Anyway, the improvement in the roads through the early afternoon had me thinking about you and your drive down from Montreal. Hope all is going well.

Heya folks! Sorry, haven't had a chance to update till now.

The clutch job was a bit of a bummer, but as I said, I expected to do one within a year anyway, so now I'm just glad it's out of the way (and paid for). In a way, I was lucky to deal with it Montreal mid-trip... a lot more options there for shops, and it got done FAST.

The trip: The guy I bought the car from (Robert/occb2) was very kind and took the day off to get my dad and I at the airport, took us to the car, went to supper with us and then guided us into Manhatten. It was pretty cool, my first drive in the car was driving into NYC.

Dad and I had a GREAT time in NYC... walked around, wen to different restaurants, went to a broadway play, did some typical touristy stuff (Statten Island ferry, bus tours etc).

Got snow on Saturday, so we decided to go out and play...



We decided to pop by Gullwing Motors. I'd been seeing their ads since I was a kid, and was always fascinated by their ecclectic mix of classics, muscle cars, pre-war stuff, garage queens and beaters. What a great way to kill a few hours!












Fell in love with this e-type... a great tatty "driver"
