It really hurts right now

This is an Off Topic discussion forum so I just need to express some feelings that are real hard to keep in.
We said "Goodbye" to Charlie this morning.
He was our rescue dog when we got him. He was nine months old.
It is killing me and my wife. I can't stop crying. I have been through so much in my life and seen a lot of death.
This dog was all we had because our children have long left the nest.
He was a 65 lb mutt.
Smartest dog I ever had. Never once peed or pooped in the house.
Never chewed any articles. Never jumped up on the furniture.

Our grandkids could sit on him and pull his ears and he would just "roll with it".

He had a vengence for the mail lady. (11 years)
If he was with me outside and she came by, he would run up to her with his tail wagging and all was cool but if she walked up to the front window to deliver the mail and he was on the other side of the window... oh ...the war was on.

He loved the river near our house and he loved tennis balls.
Cancer got him.
I got to get over this. Thanks for listening.

So sorry. I know Charlie was a Good Boy. RIP.

It's tough losing a pet. I lost one a year and a month ago. Still find a hair here and there.

Sorry for you and your wife.

I wonder about cancer and pets. They don't drink and smoke. They mostly eat well. Cancer really doesn't seem to be selective at all.

jhynesrockmtn 01-20-2012 04:47 PM

Sorry to hear. Cancer got my Kona almost a year ago. My GF's brother who helped me through that just lost his lab/rot mix rescue to the exact same thing Kona had last Friday.

They don't live long enough.

Condolences to you both.

I figured out why it seems harder to lose a dog than a person. Dogs outperform people. They spend their entire lives being 100% focused on making you happy.

Sorry dude, I know how it feels. Lost a pet about 2 months ago myself, cancer as well. How does a furry animal get skin cancer? Anyways.

There will be good days again

Sorry man, it's tough (as you know). Rescues are the best, it's almost like they know you saved them and they give it back tenfold. When mine die I always say I can't take the pain again, but within days I'm back at the shelter getting a new friend. RIP Charlie.

I'm sorry as well! I lost my best friend many years ago. It is amazing how much they mean to us and our lives. I wish you the best!

Sorry to hear this sad news.

Thoughts are with you. Chip says woof.

pete3799 01-20-2012 05:24 PM

Sorry for your loss.
In time you will be able to look back and smile at all the good times you two had.
R.I.P. Charlie.

Dead solid perfect.

Rapewta, time will help. That's all I can say.

All of us who have lost pets know how you are feeling right now. It hurts...a lot!

syncroid 01-20-2012 06:41 PM

I am sorry for your loss too. Rest in peace Charlie.

billybek 01-20-2012 06:47 PM

Sorry to hear of this.

The hardest thing is looking in all those familiar places where he would hang out. You just can't help but look every time you pass by his favorite spot.

Do you have a photo of him to share?

Charlie certainly has left a hole in your life and in your heart, but I think that is the price we pay for the unconditional love animals gave to their owners.

You'll meet Charlie again...

VINMAN 01-20-2012 07:08 PM

So sorry . Been through this recently also. Still hurts:(

Outback Porsche 01-20-2012 07:09 PM

Sorry for your loss.

Never really get over it - just have fond memories now of all my dogs that have passed. The void gets filled by the next puppy.

944Larry 01-20-2012 07:41 PM

Sorry about the loss of your friend. I've got a lab with that crap, it's just a matter of time. Every time I hear of something dying of cancer I get pissed. I remember when I was little hearing President Kennedy talk about sending a man to the moon, and returning, before the end of the decade. They put the resources and research behind the project and did it. No doubt if we made the same commitment we could put this scourge of mankind to rest forever.
