The LP is one axe I've not yet owned, yet . I've been a Strat guy for years, then in the 80's/90s went Ibanez RG series for flexibility (studio and live).

I did p/up a sweet early 80s Gibson Explorer for spare change, don't play it as its not my style or very comfortable 'for me' to play. Its appreciated some 500% over what I paid for it. Maybe my son will want it when he gets old enough?

I do plan on adding a nice flame top LP to the stable one day soon.

A buddy of mine (retired investment banker) has been on a buying spree since the economy has forced so many guitars on the market. I'll get a pic of his collection and see how many can identify what he's got. Pretty cool and unusual stuff along with the standards.
Re EMG
In the 80s and 90s I lived and played in the Bay area, EMG was virtually unknown to most guys back then (early 80s I think).

For us it took a while for the 'active' p/ups that needed batteries to gain traction.

I remember a Parker Fly was one of the 1st I played with the EMGs. I immediately saw the benefits after playing my instructors Mark Johnson custom. I think we used 80 and 85s (?)in my Ibanez guitars with great results.
(Don't have that one anymore)
Never put them in a Strat tho, I prefered the Texas Specials in the Strats.

Bringing back some memories!!

Is your explorer an E2 model? like the pic below? if so, please save it for me I love how you can see the layers of wood in the body...looks like nice furniture wood work to me

As for EMG..i dont remember if i liked it much. Now days, im not into active pickups...would rather buy something like a Bareknuckle PU with high output but more tone and not worry about that 9V battery. I think I got it because I could not hear my bridge PU over the other guitar player in the band or something

the #1 reason i ever got interested in wanting a guitar at 13. Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols. Not the greatest player, but he had something that hooked me. Love the guy

He shows how to play some pistol's riffs...For better quality get the Classic Album series DVD

50th anniversary Gibson SG 12 String. Just out and sold out.
One color. The heritage red I guess it is called.
If you don't have one by now... you have to wait for the next wave coming out in may. The Guitar player in my band ordered one thru Guitar Center.
List is around $2400.00 and they are selling them for $1300.00.
Me.. I would get a Ricky 330 or 360 but to each his own.

They were forced to quit using the Broadcaster name by Gretch.

Jazzmaster I'm building.

Fender USA body (was a factory second I picked up for $40, I did the finishing work, stain and lacquer).
Warmoth neck with Gotoh side truss adjuster and Graph Tech nut.
Grover locking Rotomatics on the way along with a Mastery bridge.
Reissue 1962 trem.
Havent decided on pickups yet. (wish Wolfe made some for Jazzmaster). Maybe Lollars.

ESP's done.

Vibramate on the Bigsby? Was thinking of adding one to my ESP. Not something you see every day.

i used a vibramate to install the bigsby without drilling. works awsome...the break angle after the bridge is a little drastic because when you drill install a bigsby, its typically much further back but still, it works very well and i love it

I'm not intending to pee on anybody's method but.....I just really wonder about guitar setups having a bazillion buttons and knobs and patch cords, etc. 'Course, I'm a bass player so whaddo I know, eh? But.....that many connections, that many bits of circuitry, can't be good for fidelity and, well, I just wonder about it. In the olden days, if a guy played through a Marshall, there was no need for a fuzzbox. So, maybe he had a wah-wah pedal and if he wanted to be fancy, he'd have a phase shifter.

The guitarist in my band has a setup nearly as complex-looking as the one pictured. To my ear, his guitar sounds crappy on every setting except "clean." His distortion is so obnoxious-sounding it just makes you wanna punch somebody. And when it comes time (like in The Bomber, or in Listen To The Music) for good-sounding effects like reverb or phase shifting, he seems to be unable to achieve those. WTF? For all that equipment, he's really got just two sounds: clean and ugly/distortion.
