I liked the Resident Evil series. But that could have been mainly because of Milla Jovovich.

Threads - quite possibly the most depressing film ever made.
When The Wind Blows
On the Beach - Gregory Peck version (vintage racing footage at Riverside too).

+1 for
The Road and
On The Beach.

A Boy and His Dog was pretty good. Kind of humorous.

anime is littered with post apocalyptic themes. Good call.

I remember seeing a movie as a kid, can't remember the name, of a space station with nuclear missiles.
And the dudes on board watched Nuclear holocaust from orbit , waited some time and then went back to earth , but it's a bit vague in memory what they did then.. i think the survivors had organized themselves in rather crude groups, , but not sure..

found it, Def-con 4

EDIT, watched some of it on youtube.. well, it's rather crap really.

So I'm not the only one

Surprised no one has mentioned "Battle for Los Angeles"

I thought Contagion did a great job showing how the transition from "normal" to "apocoliptic" will start.

The fact that a movie would star someone like Ashton Kutcher and actually make money is a pretty good sign that the Apocalypse is near

On The Beach, not only because it was such a well made film, but also because it was so plausible for those of us alive during the height of the Cold War. This was not some undefined future era, it was apocalyptic NOW!

And in that same vein, though not a world-wide apocalypse, is Fail-safe. Truly scary in it's Cold War context, again, because of the plausibility.

On a lighter note, Brazil
