Well, i am back home. random musings..and q's - browning shotguns, watches, and..

it is good to be home. i miss and worry about my mom. tried to buy her a plane ticket to vacation with me..but she says she needs alone time. i can respect that.

my stepdad opted to be cremated, and this was my first experience with this. learned a new word "cremains" the funeral guy kept dropping that catch-phrase..i guess "ashes" is so 80's. all in all, the funeral guy was a go-getter. the word "no" was not in his vocabulary. my eulogy went fine. all of my siblings said words.

dad's buddies were bobby knight, and coach haskins. haskins was bff and i think he even mentioned my dad in that book glory road. we have haskin's winchester 101 given to him by UTEP. Shaq's personal chef tried to get my dad to give some cooking lessons on chinese food. learned this at the funeral.\

i didnt know my stepdad was a hoarder. he hid it. you open a closet and the man defied the laws of time and space. i had to clear out a room for an auntie. i took out 7 truckloads of jackets, shoes and pants. i found a ROLEX DAYTONA!! not the paul newman version.but a deep five figure watch never the less. it is perfect and works. we will probably sell it for cash..for mom.

now to shotguns. i found maybe 50 shotguns. some great ones. haskins gave him a benelli black eagle..i found my rem 1100, with a new rem choke barrel. myriad of double barrels. most were browning autos. what is the story with those?

highlights. brandnew 1100 in a box. brandnew win 101 in box. brandnew win 100 sxs..brandnew weatherby o/u in a box. brandnew browning auto in a box.

found a ruger redlable o/u 20 gauge, another win 101, that fits me beautifully!! i gathered up all the scattered firearms and put them into his two gun safes.

i go back in a few weeks with my truck. i am grabbing a few brandnew jackets, and some random stuff. mom says for my bro and i to spit the guns. i gave my sister and BIL a pair of SW auto pistols..9 and 45.

it was insane. i have 3 more bedrooms an attic and a shed to clear out. the goodwill girls almost fainted at my truckloads of brandnew stuff..

i need to help remodel my mom's bathroom to make it more senior friendly. she fell a few days ago in the shower. i need to fix her kitchen sink.

busy.

I'm happy things went well.

If you are talking Browning A5's, they are superb. I have a long barrel magnum I use for goose and duck hunting.

They look a bit goofy but shoot very well...little to no recoil depending on the ammunition used.

I'd fly back down and rent a small U-Haul truck. The days saved is worth the price.

Best of luck, Cliff. Be well.

Nice thing you are doing for your family.

I would rent a small uhaul and drive the safe back. I'm a sucker for old guns, especially those with sentimental value. Sounds like quite a few nice pieces in there, if you cant use them...

Good luck

I own 2 Win 101's in 20g. They're great guns. I would haul the safe and any belongings back in a trailer, the Tacoma can take it (V6 right?). Good job on the TCB.

Yeah, rent a truck.

I too am a sucker for sentimental stuff. If I were you, I'd choose a few items to keep, forever, and cherish.

Glad all went well!

A5s are tops! You will LOVE them. Some are worth significantly more than others. Do some research! My newer one is worth low four figures. My older one, which looks like heck, is still worth more than an 870 and shoots rather well!

Brownings hold value and are a top notch shotgun. He did well.

Easy sell in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona. Check state laws to ensure what you can do.

My wife is moveing down from Portland OR. to Lost Angeles.

We are going to use a POD (they drop off a container that you fill and move to to your destination), cost a few hundred more but when you figure gas, food, and hotel (if you are going to stop) you about break even.

They have small, medium, large, but not sure what the weight limits are.
