Good apocoliptic movies

I enjoy this genre of books and movies. Anyone have any good suggestions? The best one to come out in recent times is day after tomorrow. IMO. Know of any good ones?

I always liked Omega Man, with Charlton Heston

Damn Tobra, I was going to post the same thing. I heard that I Am Legend was a remake of Omega Man (haven't seen it).

Road Warrior. all time classic.

the shape of things to come. interesting to see what people in the 1930s thought the apocalypse would look like.

children of men, long dull overrated.

anyone else remember "thundarr the barbarian"?

I know I'm in the minority, but I enjoyed "2012." I ain't saying it was good, but it's fun. The scene with LA sliding into the ocean is insane. "Zombieland" is fun but it's mostly post-apocalyptic. Maybe "Deep Impact," but it's somewhat overwroughtand sentimental.

+1. It is a great flick - they don't make them like that anymore!

and +1 on I am Legend.

Others:
- War of the Worlds (NOT the Tom Cruise remake, but the one from the 60's)
- Waterworld. I know - most folks said it was terrible -- I liked it.
- Knowing - had a nice 'What is going to happen' feel about it, though I don't particularly enjoy Nicholas Cage.
- The TV mini-series: Stephen King's "The Stand." Intricate plot and long character development gives you a sense of 'the end is near.'
'Millenium' was kind of a mind-trip, if you don't mind 80's culture and styles, and cheezy movies.
- Escape from NY
- Logan's Run
- Running Man
- Terminator & T2

I'm with Jeff on A Boy and His Dog with the young Don Johnson. Cool ending.

The Day After - 1983 TV movie. Great one to show the kids- "Hey son, this was some real *%#$ back in the 50's-80's!"

Classic John Lithgow also.

Doesn't completely fit the apocalyptic mold, but it's close enough...

Don't forget Idiocracy. It's especially scary because it's really happening now.
