its not going to be as cheap as Indy was, (for both saturday and sunday it was less then $100 for me) but I do think Austin is going to be more fun. I am expecting to pay around $400-500 for weekend tickets. but I am expecting the most damage to be spent on the hotel, I would like to stay down town, but not sure if thats even still possible, most are booked that weekend.

In the last 30 years what U.S. F1 venue has lasted more than a few years? Detroit, Dallas, Phoenix, Vegas, Indy... Why would one put down that kind of cash for PSL for 10-15 years? You won't get your money back.

Seems this is the new model for sports pricing - first license a seat, and then purchase tickets. That is what Jerry Jones did here in Dallas when he build Jerry World (aka Cowboy Stadium).

I am hoping for some level of sanity and am hoping to split the PSL with a friend for three seats to make it somewhat affordable. I understood you could purchase the PSL for 5, 10 or 15 years.

Bernie and COTA has a 10-year F1 agreement, and, as others have noted, the PSL will give access to MotoGP, Australian Super V8's. I am really hoping the ALMS cars roll through town.

My daughter has an apartment in Austin, so at least I won't have that cost.

This is something I would love to experience first-hand - of course cost must be somewhat reasonable (less than $500 per ticket on turn 15 - wishful thinking!)

well other then the COTA there is only one track in the US that is up to F1 standards, and thats Indy, and I believe they had to spend 110 million to bring that track up to F1 specs. I attended the F1 races at Indy and thought it was a good venue, but in the wrong city. Indianapolis y is very well know for a specific race, the indy 500, and its not an F1 race.

with a purpose built, world class track, where F1 would be the main attraction will be enough to keep the race there for the duration of the contract and likely beyond.

Exactly my plan. May still end up in Austin but things were too much up in the air back when I needed to book Canada to get a decent seat and apartment.

A PSL for a seat on a temporary road course?? I could almost see it for a billion dollar stadium, but in freaking Weehawken?

Cannonball996 05-01-2012 01:31 PM

Maybe one of my friends will buy an extra ticket, no need for a hotel room on my side.

The cost varies depending upon where you want to sit. I was on the list, so I've gotten a bunch of emails. The cheapest psl that I saw was $1500, and it wet up to $40,000 for an 8 person box. All of the emails that I got were for15 years.

He's confusing the USGP at Austin and the USGP at NJ. First we don't have one, then we have two.

Monza_dh 05-01-2012 04:47 PM

Forget the US GP, why not hit Montreal? Buy GA tickets, bring in a cooler and some grub and you are good to go!

I love Austin but Montreal has the whole GP weekend down

OK, here is the pertinent info that I received from the sales folks.

Quote:

• All of the seats in the Main Grand Stand, Turn 1, and The Grand Plaza (structure is in-between turns 15 and 16 – views t16, t15, t14, t13, t12) have a personal seat license attached to every seat
• The prices levels (price breakdown/structure) for PSL’s and season tickets are the same in all three seating areas (Grand Stand, Turn 1, Grand Plaza)
• General admission tickets will go on sale in June/July (Non psl seats)
• The personal seat license is a one-time payment that gives you ownership of the seat for 15 years (You can sell or transfer)
• With a PSL you are required to purchase the season ticket on an annual basis
• The season ticket consist of 3 days of F1 and 3 days of V8 Super Cars

This is one race I'd like to see. The entire weekend seems so Europeon, but it's here. They know how to do a F1 race.

No worries. Got a 540i or Boxster you can use if want to have a look around without lugging the bike and all your gear with you.

Awesome time. Add in the SUPERB evening entertainment (don't speak French?... nice ladies to show you around), libation and eats. Even feels like a euro venue.

Sort of bummed but this whole USGP thing has me re-thinking. For that coin, I'm going overseas.

Back when Indy was running, I was impressed. Seats were excellent anywhere. For qual and practice getting right on in tight at some corners was absolute best.

I can see Austin wearing the Texas attitude... bigger in TEX... jeez, so for lunch an oil can of Fosters will be $25 and my beef on a stick will be $35.

Bill Douglas 05-01-2012 10:45 PM

Hey Bernie, if you are reading this, I want my glass of wine back! I spilled it when I heard how much you and the boys are charging in the US.

As per the above posts, visit Australia - you'll love it :)

petrolhead611 05-02-2012 01:33 AM

If its anything like the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, I went once because I had a free entry via a GP2 team on the same programme, but quite frankly you could only see a small section of the track at a time and the cars flew by so fast that really you hardly saw anything. Much better view on TV.

Now Monza let's be fair. GA and grandstands are not created equal. I highly recommend you get there early if GA. I was in grandstand number 33 and had a blast. Plus, you can bring whatever you want in, and I mean WHATEVER. Bring a full cooler with a case of beer and ton's of food.
