I am sure sick of the promos for it. It seems every show on History Chanel has a feud now or some Hatfield & McCoy connection. I will be skipping the show. It will be a drama based on some writers fantasy about the real history. Probably as historically accurate as the ghost hunters, Bigfoot & ancient aliens or the monster hunter, BS shows.

I have a buddy who is a Hatfield. He watched it. I will get his take. He told me about the feud once. I forgot. Not nearly as sexy as the legend.

I was born & raised in Wva & now retired in Ky. Never knew a Hatfeild or a McCoy. Heard some of the stories but I think it's mostly a myth.

a lot of the stuff on it is a myth

but I think I saw this mentioned in an Appalachian documentary film on PBS and one family was on the side of the big coal co.s that the inhabitants hated so much

the myth I heard is that they were fighting over a particular dirt eating area -- a little known fact is that in many parts of the South people ate dirt to overcome a specific nutritional hunger for some mineral that was lacking in most of the food - these areas were often handed down within a family, inherited rights to eat dirt, yep...

Hatfield pisses off McCoy, feud back and forth, a lot of bad blood, one of the Hatfield kids falls in love with a McCoy kid, "forbidden love", one or both die, the families see the error of their ways and decide to try to get along. The End.
