Thought Id give you guys an update and myself an opportunity to just vent. My son was born on 9/30, coincidence, i think not, but funny as I did not realize it till the next day. When I told my wife, she said, "Oh Boy...." which is her typical response when I have one of my off the wall ideas. Anyway Cohen William was born that evening at 7lbs 4oz and a little over 19".
Long story short, the last 6 weeks have been really though on both of us as Cohen is still in the NICU at children's here due to a couple of congenital defects. One has been repaired and is finally doing better and the other is a "wait and see" till they would decide to the next operation. The one positive is that our surgeon has told us they are both "fixable" so that has been a little comforting. It just is hard to see him going through all of this and there is nothing I can do, but to just be there as many hours as I can. He does continue to get better and we hope to have him home by thanksgiving. That little guy and my Wife are my heros. Thanks again guys for the support.

Jeremy hang in there, my son was in the NICU for 70 days. Those damn monitor alarms still give me chills.

My prayers are with you and your family. All the best to Cohen for a speedy recovery.

Jeremy,

You, Cohen, & your wife will be in my prayers as well. I can tell you what; you're a hero of mine. It takes a real special man to do what you are doing.

Wow, hang in there. I was born a triple in 1954 and weighted 1 lbs, 2 oz. with my two sisters, who weighted about the same. We all pulled through.

Today's medicine is amazing...definitely hang in there. Soon enough, you'll be asked how to throw a curve ball.

Toughest job being a dad to a newborn who can't go home after the normal stay. All dads understand and we all feel for you. Hang tough and best if luck. And congratulations, papa!

Thanks allot guys I really appreciate it.
Pappy you're right. Even though he is stabile they still have to keep the monitors and you are right when one goes off it freaks me out. Also all those pricks to draw blood, the IVs, PICC lines are horrible as well. He has had 4 different PICC lines and hopefully the last one will be out today or tomorrow.
The toughest part right is trying to get him to eat by bottle. Due to his TEF repair he's has challenges swallowing and tends to reflux which is heartbreaking but I hope it is in part due to him learning how to eat as this is the first time he has had mom's milk. The next thing is for him to keep putting on weight as children with large VSDs have a tough time putting on weight.

Wow that's unbelievable Hugh. Cohen has a twin in the next pod over, also born at a little over one pound as well. One of the sisters has gone home already, born in June and the other to leave shortly as well. Today's medicine IS awesome.
