Does your Orthopedic Surgeon make house calls???

Had my 2nd knee replacement recently. I was shocked when Dr. Dan did a house call 4 days after I was released from hospital. Could only happen in a small town.

I learned a lesson from my other knee replacement in 2011. I went to my old Knee Doc in the City; 200 miles round trip. One appointment turns into 12 appointments. I put on over 2,000 miles crossing a mountain pass each trip on that deal.

With motorcycles and snowmobiles, I tend to keep an orthopedic surgeon on speed dial. 3 years ago, a dirt bike crash required 2 surgeries to fix the shoulder. I tried Dr Dan locally and was happy. His office is at the hospital 23 miles away in a college town of 23,000 population.

I gave Dr. Dan the nod for my 2nd knee replacement. On one pre-op appointment: He examined me, sent me to the hospital for Xrays and told me to came back to his office for results. Total time for the 3 appointments was 45 minutes.

On this knee job, I had a private Hosp room for 2 nites. I was at the end of the hall with no one in the room across from me, nor next door.......

I'm at 2 weeks and walking w/o a cane. Anyone else have a house call in recent history? I haven't heard of that since the early 1960's....

That is indeed impressive, and lucky--sounds like need to have a good ortho close to you at all times. I know that making it over the pass is a massive pain.

Two weeks walking w/o a cane is great. Are you using an ice machine? That makes a YUGE difference.

My Anethesiologist comes to my house... but he is my son so that probably doesn’t count.

Hmm. Maybe things have changed in the six years since mine were done. Constant ice was the regimen for the first week or so.

This summer I went to all three days of the Portland Indycar race and walked about 6-7 miles each day, according to my phone. Zero pain. The things flat out work. Keeping weight off becomes a big deal, though, because exercise options are limited. I lost 20 lbs this past year and it's made a big difference.

Sounds like you are doing great.
