champagne question...
 

since there are some worldly people on this board...

im throwing a big party in june at my house in indy. some of you might remember that the last parties i had, were pretty crazy. i literally have a 1500sq foot dance club in my house complete with pro audio equipment, lasers, smoke, light systems, etc. i even have have a professional dance floor installed. (a weird bucket list item of mine...)

anyway...these parties are pretty epic.

i figured i would surprise the guests with the usual libations....and id like to provide champagne.

Dom Perignon, or Cristal? ...or something else? opinions?

What do we gotta do to get an invite to this?

Dom & Cristal if you just want to impress with your wallet. If the crowd appreciates good bubbly then Veuve Clicquot.

...and it's pretty much just going to be attended by flight attendants from my last job! it's gonna be "rough!"

Korbel Natural is very good for under $20 a bottle. Extra Dry and Brut for closer to $10.

I think for a party, you should avoid the expensive stuff. No need to buy a $50 bottle for everyone. There's one I get in Texas for when I need something cheap in large quantities. It's called Crystalino and it's generally under $10 a bottle. Most guests woun't miss the other $40.

It depends what $$$ you want to spend. I am not appreciative of expensive champagne.It is wasted on me! Of course the best is French(Mumm? and the above good brands are mentioned). To me Spanish champagne is acceptable - I believe the last Champage I had was a Spanish - Friquet. Perhaps you have friends that can recognize a good champage by its taste. To me it is overated but when the occasion justifies it go for it! Try a bottle for taste before u commit to a case.:):):)

Hmm, Well, Cristal is all the rage in Topless bars because it's usually the most expensive on the menu. I think it and Dom are both done mostly based on name.

I know Veuve Clicquot is quite popular.

A very nice, and very memorable Champagne is Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque and Belle Epoque Rose. Have some of each and not only will you have a good Champagne, but you'll make quite an impact with the hand painted bottles.

If you want to get really fancy, you can get the gift packs which come with matching hand painted glasses. Also available are metal or glass buckets that match.

I would think that if you find a willing liquor rep, you should be able to get some of the stuff thrown in if you're placing a large order.

If you want to be a bit different, James Bond always orders Bollinger. :D

i think Proseco is a very good bang for the buck.

italian bubbly wine!! it is slightly more sweet than their french counterparts.

high desert is about 6 hours south of you. this party is back at my house in Indiana! ;)

My wife also mentioned Proseco(never had it before) and she also says that you cant drink too much champange so could switch to wine after.

As an add on, if you have flt. attendants coming to your party you will need to hire a "crew bus" to shuttle them home. As an afterthought flt. attendants know the difference between a cheap champagne and an expensive one. After all they are wordly too! :confused::):confused::confused::)

I bought tickets for Le Mans, planned on spending 2 weeks in the south of France for my summer vacation. But...I think my time is better spent checking on things back home, and making sure my house is in good order. (This is my first time going home in almost a year. I have somebody look over the house for me). So the money that was planned for my regular vacation can be allotted for some other things....ie: this party

Better value than Veuve whatever. Wouldn't spend more per bottle for a party though. Our favorite is Delamotte. Mid $40ish and more interesting than the first two in our opinion.

Then again, I'm bottling cider and strong belgian style beers in Gruet (of NM) bottles. Darn fine domestic for $13/bottle - and the same 26mm crown cap that every non-twistoff 12oz beer uses. If I were you I'd order 5 cases of Gruet and ship the empties to me...
