Rant: buying tickets
The wife wants to see a particular show, so I have to go to tickets.com to get tickets. I think it would be less painful to pound my nuts flat with a ball-peen hammer. After clicking through endless showtimes and getting "Tickets are not available together in the quantity you requested" I finally get a pair of seats somewhere between the ISS and the Hubble telescope. I try again; 15-20 minutes later (yes, really) , I get another set, which are decent. I bend over for the $30 "convenience fee" and $3.50 "processing" fee, put in all my credit card info, etc, say 'no thank you' to the 'ticket insurance' etc, and finally get to the money shot....
"The reservation for these tickets has expired" /sad trombone By this time I'm fantasizing about musicians lying dead and naked in a pool of their own vomit in a Greyhound bus station bathroom, but then I think it through a little more clearly and realize it's not their doing, but the 'industry' which has sprung up around them to sap every last dollar they can. I'd gladly pay the $30 convenience fee to see one of these guys fed into a wood chipper. I was doing this out of duress - the wife wanted to see this show for her birthday; I have no interest in seeing this show at all. Zero. The fact that people willingly put up with this shyte warps my mind.

This is why I no longer go to live shows. I've been unable to get decent seats within seconds of the tickets going on sale in a 10,000+ seat arena, before the seats officially went on sale to the general public.

More and more, I find myself buying tickets for artists that are only sold through their website or boxoffice of the venue. Then you HAVE to willcall at the boxoffice the day of the concert and show ID. Cuts way down on the scalping.

+1 and usually for the same amount of money, one can get all the CD put out by the artist.

Just last week went through the deep firey depths of helllllllllll and back........dealing with "live nation / Ticket master" trying to get 4 tickets to see RUSH.
total service fee, $68. And trying to talk with Rohlanda the large sounding Mexican lady in their Texas based call center was enough to make me once again vow to never by tickets again. I honestly told her "no lube this time please, when I'm getting bent over this far I like it dry".

There are plenty of clubs/bars around with really good bands... as good as the "name brand" bands rehashing the songs of their youth. To the OP *cough* have you tried craigslist? *cough* $1000 to $2000 for a seat? yeah... kiss my fat white ***!

I have almost never bought tix in advance for the several big concerts I go to each year since about 1988. Ticketsheister has the worst seats available, even for the presales, and the "convenience" charges are an insult. I have never ever gotten worse than about 14th row floor by just showing up at the event a little early and either going to the box office or sniffing around the parking lot. I usually pay face value or a little less for the premium seats. I did get front row for VH once on the day of the show by calling Ticketsheister and last year I got about 12th row floor for Rush by calling the day of the show. Otherwise, I just show up and I always, always make out.

Didjaknow?
Ticketbastard got investigated, possibly busted, for selling off huge blocks of seats to scalper websites. Some of whom turned out to be Ticketbastard subsidiaries of some sort... I'll have to find the story later...

The best convenience charge that I came across, charging more to print you own tickets then having them mailed to you ![]()

We just had Lynyrd Skynyrd play in Crewe VA
. Tickets were $45 and $25 with no fees, you got the tickets at the bank. I think they had 4000 people show up. This is a small town, so this was a big deal.
