Electronic Cigarette

I have attempted to quit smoking several times in the past. I picked up an electronic cig the other day and some of the zero nicotine “smoke juice” stuff. Haven’t had a smoke in 2 days now. These things are not marketed as a smoking cessation aid but I think having a cigarette like device that I can use to help with the habits that kind of go along with it like going outside for a smoke break at work and stuff does make it easier.

The best part is after only 2 days I feel so much better. Not coughing all the time, feel like I can take a deep breath. Its really cool.

I've never figured out why people start in the first place.

+1 on quitting but you gotta stay on top of it. Quitting was one of the smarter moves I've made in my life. It has been over 35 yrs. now but I still find myself, every now & then, wondering & thinking about the infernal things for the briefest of moments. I believe quitting is based on a conscious & concerted effort to just not smoke cigarettes. Good luck to you Kyle.

Cheers

Good that you are on the way...

I used (still do) round wooden toothpicks to chew on when I got the urge. I still keep a box in every car just in case.

Worked for me.

have you been given the stink-eye yet, while using it in a public place?
+congrats on getting away from the real butts.

szyzygy 06-06-2012 09:44 AM

Congrats, keep it up.
I used to smoke and do skoal for years. Been clean for 7 years now. You can do it!

stomachmonkey 06-06-2012 10:17 AM

Been using one for 6 months but my liquid still contains nicotine.

I've stepped down 3 times now from 24 mg to 8 mg. Next is 4 then 0.

They work, went from a pack of Marlboro Reds to no cigarettes in 3 days and don't miss them.

And you don't get the stink eye more so than curiosity. Mine does not look like a cigarette so people are interested in what it is and when you tell them they are almost all supportive and not bothered by it.

I'm in LA for the day, "smoked" on the plane ride out, no one said a word.

It's odor less and if you hold the hit in no one even notices, not even the guy who was sitting next to me.

Went from two an a half packs a day to zero cold turkey in 1984, The only thing that worked for me was just deciding I was a non smoker. The decision was the hardest part.

That is exactly the way I approached quitting then & still do to this day. I have a buddy that uses the nicorette gum & I say, use & do whatever it takes to help you give up the "coffin nails"

Cheers

I don't smoke but was thinking of getting one just to smoke in public :p

Zeke 06-06-2012 01:29 PM

I don't see how you could use one on a plane, but I've never seen one that I know of.

There is no odor, if you do it right there is no visible vapor.

It's known as vaping, vapor vs smoke, smoking

Friend of mine just did a 14 hour flight from Israel to Dallas.

He vaped the whole trip, no one said a word.

His seat mate from the Austin to DFW leg did broach the subject but only asked him to blow it the other way.

FDA is trying to regulate it where it's not allowed anywhere that smoking is prohibited using the argument that they don't have enough data on the side effects/second hand aspect.

That may prove difficult since the base is either poly or vegetable glycol which is found in just about every cosmetic/skin care/hair care product and is also the base for a lot of edible products.

Smoking is banned on european flights as well but the last time I was on Ryan Air they were selling the ecigs on board.

I've often thought it would be a hilarious sight. Have a lite one when I go to pick up my daughter at preschool. Sitting in church. Pumping gas. etc. etc.:D

Interesting post, I know there are a few kinds you can use and I'm interested. The funny thing is they are illegal here to sell, but I still see them in some smoke shops.

So is it water vapor or what?

I think it's a great idea if it's safe and doesn't cause other issues health wise.

And for all the non-smokers, please reserve comments as it's a horrible habit and extremely hard to escape from for most people.

Those who have awesome work.

Couple of old ladies meet for tea on Sunday after church and one tells the other:
Quote:

"Today at church I had a young man sit down next to me and in the middle of the sermon, he pulls out a cigarette and lights up! --- I was so shocked, I almost dropped my beer".

I recall a while back either you or someone else from your way saying they were illegal.

I mentioned it to someone else from Canada who uses them and he said they were legal.

Seems the devices themselves are permitted and the liquid is only permitted for sale if it does not contain nicotine.

So if you can get a "friendly" source of liquid with nicotine you can indulge.

It is vapor but not water, it's poly or vegetable glycol which is also used in asthma inhalers.

It's the Government; wording is ambigious

6 months for me smoke free. Ever since they admitted me to the ER for a frikkin' stoke caused by my 2 pack a day habit. $247,000.00 later I do not smoke....do yerself a favor just quit. If I can do it you can do it. The only way to quit is to just quit, no aids no fake smokes just man up and quit before you have to stare death in the eye ....that will make you quit. Just quit.

DARISC 06-06-2012 05:26 PM

Tried them several years ago, first I'd seen advertised, out of Florida. Looked like long, filtered cig, end looked like ash and glowed red only when you drew on it. Came with charger and refills - WHICH CONTAIN NICOTINE. I think all of them contain nicotine.

The "smoke", being water vapor, disissipates much faster and in a shorter distance than smoke - very easily concealed. I quit without them, cold turkey...wattabitsch, that was.

With these, the deal is, you're still "smoking" but not really; you're really inhaling water vapor containing nicotine rather than cigarette/paper smoke containing nicotine, tar and other materials that are proven carcinogens.

If I'm correct, nicotine is not considered a carcinogen in the medical world. These electronic marvels have tiny vaporizers built into them, they really do work and I've read nothing negative regarding health concerns.

For those who want to stop inhaling pot smoke but still want to get high or use pot medicinally, vaporizers are commonly available at medical marijuanna dispensaries, all legally under CA, but not Federal law.

Had my last cig about a year ago, ain't been smokin' or vaporizing nothin' either.

Good luck and best wishes to anyone kicking their habit! SmileWavy

You can get cartridges for them with a flavor (tobacco or menthol) with zero nicotine
