Dude, that is nothing compared to the brindle pony I have at my house.
Went from 15# to about 110# in 9 months 2 months old http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1525736642.jpg 11 months old http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1525736700.jpg |
Man Tobra, that's a heck of a big pup! I think Nalu will top out at 75 lbs. Monday he's going to get "tutored".........

I have a question about Gracie who came to live with us recently. She's been overly aggressive at the dog park with some other dogs. Is this just her being unsettled from being yanked from her home? Any way to work on this with her? She's been great with our senior poodle mix and the cats. She lived with a dog brother named Clyde at my son's place.
My wife will start her in obedience training soon. I'd ask my son but we've had no communication since he left Ft. Hood other than a text while he was landed in Ireland and Kuwait. His wife won't really know, she isn't really a dog person. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1525815732.jpg |
She was probably not very well socialized when she was young.
It's just my opinion, but dog parks aren't the greatest place for a dog. It's a good place for a dog to catch another dog's disease/parasites or for a dog to get in a fight with another dog that is not well socialized. |
you need 5 weeks to see a dog's true self after moving to a new spot. that was what i was told when Hellion moved in with us. he was the opposite. awesome with dogs..then after 5 weeks he settled in and became a bit of an A-hole.
we went to training. getting better. we were told we need to be more interesting that the other dog. for some, that means a high value treat, or for us..a ball or frisbee. when he is carrying his frisbee to and from the park, he is a total gentleman. |

My son found her at what the vet thought was about 9 months old, no known history prior. Texas is unfortunately a dumping ground of sorts for dogs. Lot's of military at his base will pick up and move and abandon their animals. Shelters there are shipping dogs to the PNW and other areas to get adopted out. |
Our black and tan reclamation project following a coyote attack. Three weeks in, one leg down, HE IS WALKING AGAIN!! Granted, he's still missing 25% of the skin on his two bandaged legs but it's healing at a phenomenal rate.
If we didn't own a vet clinic the bill would be nearing $20,000. He has had hyperbaric chamber visits, daily laser therapy and daily cleaning, suturing and bandaging. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1525835099.jpg |

Ah man, I'm glad he has you to take care of him after a traumatic event like that. Glad he is on the mend too. How did it all transpire? I've always been worried about that with our rescue schnauzer and cats in our area. He would be whisked away before I could get rounds down range so I just hope it never happens. That's why he gets escorted at night so he can do his biz before bedtime. Cheers Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
He supposedly walked up to a house north of us & was taken care of for "a few days" by the couple. I doubt his origin story because his wounds were so severe that any realistic person would have rushed him to the vet as soon as they saw them- his missing leg had over 6" of exposed bone and the other two had exposed bone and mucho necrotic tissue. Our guess is that he was a hunting dog who got the snot torn out of him, his owners knew that they could not afford the accompanying vet bills and so they surrendered him under the guise of him being a stray. Either way, they did take him in & surrended him so although his condition was horrendous when he was finally seen at least they didn't just let him die- which seemed to be where he was headed for his first week.
The wounds and bite marks suggest coyote or a pack of large wild dogs, but since he is a black and tan I am inclined to believe it was coyotes due to their usually beng found in the woods. (though not always these days!) |
That is an amazing story of recovery jagshund. wow.

(i think) Cesar says it's fear/anxiety behavior. Walk them tired before the dog park, use calm assertive leadership, and become new alpha to it. |

Henry, not so much..... I think it’s a grump old guy schnauzer thing. We elect for the vaccine. At 15, we figure he needs all the help he can get. I know, didn’t answer you question https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4288c896c6.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7ecf070641.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Bath time for this one, same dog I posted on page one of this thread. My other dog in the page one photo went with my ex. I hated having to split the two dogs up.

Just an update on Dante who we adopted from a rescue just over 4 months ago. He's completely transformed from the sad, scared, confused dog who didn't know his name or how to walk on leash when we brought him home. He has found his calling in life: kill all squirrels! :D Maybe not surprising, Schnauzers were originally bred as 'ratters'.
This is the day he came home: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1526523549.jpg And here he is tonight on a walk - literally going up a tree after a squirrel  http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1526523634.jpg |
Thanks for the "Dante" update, Curt.
Fantastic! Please give the 'squirrel hunter' a little belly rub (or 12) from the girls..... :) |
|
Looking good Curt. Mine flushed a big turkey and I had 200 pounds of dogs trying to chase it a few days ago
|
Ha! I can't imagine trying to hold back 200lbs worth. My 2 little guys (one 15-lbs, one 30-lbs) can be like a couple of sled dogs when they want to pull.

Anyone seen this rescue yet?

Someone left a note on my front door asking about breeding this guy. My wife called the phone number. Guy said it was the best looking dog he had ever seen, and was disappointed to find out the dog is neutered. I have had people driving by pull over to comment on what a beauty he is, but it still is surprising someone would leave a note like that

Guy a few blocks over has one that is a Rott/Lab mix that is his twin, guess I could do DNA testing on both of them, but that seems a bit silly for rescue dogs. They said the brindle one was a Dutch Shepherd, but they only go 70#, and this guy is 120# at a year old. Maybe he has some mastiff, or jumbo size German Shepherd in him http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1527870808.jpg |
I was trying to find other breeds with the distinctive center facial stripe:
Boston Terrier King Charles and Springer Spaniels Borzoi/whippets There is another breed of red/black/white stripe that is similar to a Newfoundland. Forgot the name. The square ears still look beagle/lab/terrier as does the short hair. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1527969337.jpg |
