He has at least 10 teeth that are loose or rotted, and some bone loss as well.
Not a great way to celebrate your 10th birthday.

He's at the vet now, my wife will pick him up on her way home.

Our Sherlock only had about 3 teeth left at the end. The vet told us that dog mouth health is mostly down to genetics. Some dogs rolled a snake eyes on that one.

We didn't always brush sherlock but for the last 5 years or so, he got his teeth brushed after every meal, and it didn't make a difference. Every check up he had more tooth issues.

THe important thing is that you're getting it taken care of.

There's some videos of this girl playing piano for her dog. It's sweet, but not up to the level of that guy playing for the old elephant and others.

Turns out it was a lot more than 10.
TIL dogs have 42 teeth.
The doc said for a lot of them, it wasn't so much pulling the tooth as just plucking it out. He's lost all his front teeth top and bottom between the canines, and a lot of his other upper teeth, and a couple more on the bottom. 5 had already fallen out on their own. So now he has 7 upper teeth, and 12 lower teeth.

He's home and still loopy from the anesthesia.

As far as genetics go, this is the dog whose hair matted over his butthole so he couldn't poop. This happened when he was a puppy, and now any time a piece of poop sticks to his hair he freaks out and runs to the back door, frantically pawing on it to let him back it. Which of course we don't want to do, because we don't want that in the house.

Our miniature Dachshund, Roxanne, had all of her teeth removed 1 year ago at 14.5 years old. She has been happy and healthy ever since. I will say, occasionally, her tongue will be slightly showing on the side of her mouth since no teeth to keep it in. But she gets along fine with no teeth. We feed her a Science Diet Sensitive Stomach Stew and she loves it.

Yep, our Sherlock only had 3 teeth left at the end. I think 2 were front canines. He was a mini dachshund.

I haven't read this whole thread. Any conversations on dog training? There is any number of Youtube channels on the subject. I've seen Cesar Millan but there are others. Any thoughts or advice. My son just rescued a border collie (short hair). The vet says about 1.5 years old. It was abandoned out near the ranch - very few other houses around. The dog is very shy of new people but is getting better. That dog and run fast.

Ok Guys, have some respect, Lets not let this place just go to the dogs... ;-)

I take the dogs out for an hour or so everyday I can...this one will just sit and watch, listen for ten minutes at a stretch, then run!

In the neighbors corn field.

I often wake up to Cat and Dog sitting there waiting quietly at the foot of the bed together.
Such good boys.

I don't think the dog needs any help. A border collie should have your son trained in no time.

Border collies need a job to do. They don't like sitting around. If you don't have a job to do, they'll find work on their own, and you won't like it.

I want one when it's time, but the wife says no way. The groomer says no way. The owner of the kennel we take our dogs to says no way. I think I have the wife talked into a lab / border collie cross, or something similar. I was supposed to get to pick the next dog when our Ginger passed, but my wife got the hound from the rescue. Hopefully it's a long time before it comes up, but the Scooter above is 10. At least his breath doesn't smell like death anymore.

My mom used to scramble eggs for their Golden Retriever Kelly when she got older. She adored that dog.

My girl Stella. High energy, keeps me active. She is seven now and I don’t think I could handle another Collie after her. I’m just too old. She is by far the smartest dog I’ve ever had.

Back when my brother and I were teenagers, we walked downstairs to the kitchen as mom looked at the new dog and in baby talk asked if he wanted his scrambled eggs. I asked what is for breakfast and she curtly said make you one darn breakfast. My brother and I at the same time got down on all fours and started barking. It did not work, so I had a bowl cereal. We teased mom about that for decades.

Not my dog, not my photos.

Our male dachshund, Reuben, is a hunter. He patrols the yard a lot in warmer weather, but even in cold weather he still makes a quick round. He, and the female Reese, have a doggie door so they can go out whenever they want.

He goes out the doggie door, down the side yard, circles along the edge of the storage building, checking for critters, then goes out the the fence line, down the fence to the Koi pond, circles the Koi pond, looking for tasty bugs, then into the garden area for the Koi pond gardens and will get a drink on occasion. In the summer there are usually skinks (lizards) or toads to harass.

He then heads to the west part of the yard.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1677172801.jpg

He has an actual trail he has made in the grass from going from the sidewalk where the trash cans are stored and that always get inspections for bugs, then to the tree ring, and on to the west flowerbed and fence line. The trail does disappear in the summer when I mow the grass. Right now the Bermuda grass is dormant, and just the shade grass fescue is green.

I get notifications from nextdoor and saw "reunited."

#reunited
she came back home!! The weirdest thing actually- my husband was holding my boys when they woke up early this morning- and told them we need to go look for Evee. Our 4 year old Elias said “but we don’t need to go look for her, I can smell her!” My husband laughed and said “oh you can? Where is she?” Elias replied “open the window”…. Their window faces the front porch. My husband opened it and Evee was sitting on the front porch by the door with a stick in her mouth! Apparently my son is part blood hound… 😅
